Recently, the Mexican Consulate in Dallas launched a know-your-rights campaign at day labor sites after a teenage worker at one site was picked up by a man pretending to be an employer and was subsequently turned over to immigration authorities. The Mexican diplomats want to explain to workers that federal minimum wage and occupational safety and health laws apply to everyone – regardless of status.

"The Mexican diplomats want to explain to workers that federal minimum wage and occupational safety and health laws apply to everyone – regardless of status."

But this doesn't apply: US CODE, TITLE 8—ALIENS AND NATIONALITY?

I'm surprised the "employer" isn't facing cries from the ACLU over "kidnapping".

When you see something, say something. Report day labor sites to ICE:

Report Suspicious Activity:
1-866-DHS-2-ICE
1-866-347-2423

Local jurisdictions also have laws against solicitation and loitering.

If this guy, or anyone else for that matter, would like to learn to shut these ILLEGAL sites down, join the Minutemen. We have an SOP we follow, and no we're not racist in any way, in fact a great many of our volunteers are LEGAL immigrants.

As a side note, minimum wage laws do not pertain to illegal aliens, as they are not legally allowed to work in he US at ANY rate....

But the rights that the Mexican Consulate talking about do NOT apply to illegals. How do you know the guy was pretending to be an employer. He could have been a legit employer and when he found out the guy was illegal, he did the RIGHT thing and turned him over! My son has worked from these sites before and sometimes is chosen as the employer is pretty much guaranteed that he is NOT an illegal (he couldn't get much whiter;))

Yes, min wage and OSHA apply to everyone, but that has NOTHING to do being an illegal!

Many employers hire illegals on account that they might get them to paintings extra fee-effective and an excellent style of contain sturdy workers and that they don't make waves on the jobsite. If illegals are working shape jobs them fewer jobs are open to voters. This has happenned a lot in some states that they stopped offering shape trades education interior the commerce colleges. in one state the place they clamped down on illegals working between the 1st variations replace into that the commerce colleges started reopening instructions interior the form trades as pupils found out that they had of challenge to have a residing salary commerce.

Well thats what happens when you try to work here illegally. I think it is a good idea.

I don't see what health laws have to do with the guy getting turned in to immigration, but I think work laws should only apply to people who are working legally.

I think everyone should take a day and do that. I saw a short film clip one day forget the name but the guy picked up 6 of them to work at his house but instead he took them to immigration's parking lot and blew the horn it was good they scattered LOL

Someone proposed a sensible solution to the imigration problem. Well, part of a solution. The idea is to establish some way to give temporary visas to the imigrants. Like it or not, imigrants are needed. We americans simply don't want to do certain jobs. Especially those realated to farming. Farmers have a hard time getting labor so they resort to ilegal imigrants because they are willing to do the job. What we need to do is to enable the farmers to apply somewhere for the cheap labor they need. Then an agency would transport the imigrant where is needed for a certain amount of time. Like a contract.

This same agency should punish those who hire ilegaly. That is outside of the system. This system will work for two reason.s #1 it solves the lack of employee proplems. 2# because the people that hire within the system are paying, they will not want others to get an unfair advantage. Thus, those farmers that hire ilegally will be told on and look down upon. The imigrant also, benefits because he could be hire strait from his/her country of origin without having to risk his/her lives just to get here plus the imigrant will be protected under the law. That is , they won't be total slaves.

By the way, those who say imigrants are not needed tell them to go work at a farm for minimum wage for a month and see how quickly they chage their minds.

pretty funny. More american citizens should do that. However, that could become risky because I wouldn't put it past some of this illegals to be carrying weapons. Many of those illegals would use a weapon before getting deported.

The ILLEGAL ALIEN CRIMINAL got exactly what was coming to him. We need more people doing this to show the criminals that we won't be overrun without a fight.

There is no justification for illegals being in this country NO MATTER HOW MUCH THEY WHINE. YOU ARE ILLEGAL = YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS. GO HOME!
