The best way I have to describe the Trinity is to think of the father of a houshold. When he is at work he wears the hat of the provider. When he is with his wife the wears the hat of the husband. And when he is with his children he wears the hat of a loving father. As such he kind of takes on three different personalities. He wouldn't treat his kids like someone at work nor would he treat someone at work like his wife. Now, being a finite being he can only deal with one aspect at a time, where as God, being an infinite being, is able to handle all at once.
God chose to reveal Himself in this way to help us understand the relationship He wants with us as best as we can.
