Some people are in fact called to be celibate and single their whole lives. Bible calls that a gift. It is easier to focus on God and serving others when you have just your life to worry about. When there's a second person, plus later children, your mind is in so many places at once, that it's much harder to focus on serving God.

At the same time however, the Bible clearly says that if you feel like you really need to be with a woman, you should get married so you don't just go sinning around, hurting yourself and others. You get married and build a family and do your best to serve God out of those circumstances.

So if Jesus called you to be single your whole life, you should be thankful, He'll give you the strength you need to overcome whatever temptations you may face and you will have more time and focus to spend on the things of God.

Take care.

Jesus does not want that from anybody, that's why God created man and woman, for each other. You don't have to choose celibacy or God's love. You can choose marriage, which is God's will.

Hear tell there once was a loving couple called Adam & Eve, they had neither a church nor a wedding but they loved openly and freely in the eyes of God. Fast forward to today and they would be called immoral sinners fornicating all over the place and begetting bastard off-springs. Times have changed so who knows what Jesus might want from you but if/when you have a heart to heart conversation with him come on back and share it with the rest of us.

Indeed I would and the scriptures are clear about this, in that men following the will of God, especially in the ministry, should remain celibate.

That said, I am married now (25+ years), so the point is moot. But, should I outlive my wife she and I know that the remainder of my life would be spent as a celibate, dedicating myself to seeking the will of God. We have discussed this many times.

What's with the hypothetical question? God doesn't require it, and never has!
Now "IF" you choose to do this on your own, so that you can devote all of your attention to God, then God would be pleased and reward you beyond that of normal Christians, but He doesn't require it! He put us here, man for woman and woman for man.

God says it isn't good that man should be alone, which is why a woman was created for Adam. He also says that once we are grown up we should "leave our mother and father and cleave to our spouse". I think God intended for everyone to be married, however, you should not love your spouse more than you love God. If so, that is a sin and you should seriously reconsider where you're at in life.

I have. I had no idea how long it would be but I did and come to find out it was because he had my husband planned out for me and he is the most incredible man I ever could have imagined to have in my life. It is always best to wait on God and see what his plan is.
