I actually disagree that it's the last fat to go, because when I lost weight, I lost the most from the belly area. I've lost over 30 lbs so far (since October 2006).

I gave up sugar and refined carbs (white bread, white pasta) and ate more veggies, whole grains, and lean proteins. Anything high in fiber is great too. I gave up alcohol and any processed food. I started drinking lots of water and herbal teas. I did it for health reasons because I had candida overgrowth (yeast) and was feeling awful from all the symptoms I was experiencing. The weight loss was a nice by-product. Here's some info about the diet: http://altmedicine.about.com/od/popularhealthdiets/a/candidadiet.htm

A lot of our "belly fat" could also be related to bloating. You might want to try avoiding foods that are high in salt as well. Ginger tea works great to get rid of bloat.

Pilates and yoga have some fantastic exercises for your abs - much more effective than your regular cruch. Look into taking some classes, but remember, you won't be able to see your muscles until you've lost some of the fat in your belly. A good diet and cardio, that will become part of your lifestyle, are your best bets.

Good luck!

Sorry hun, but belly fat is the last fat to go in your body. I am 5'2, weigh 93 lbs--as you can probably imagine, I am bony all over, except for my belly. I have a nice big pooch belly

Take a look at this picture. Everyone has belly fat and there isn't much you can do about it. Love yourself!

Try to avoid drinking beer. This causes a beer belly. It's true--I've seen it happen to the skinniest of college girls.

Avoid short shirts that accentuate your belly.

Okay back when i was 10 or 11, i was just humungo! i weighed like 170 llbs or something like that.....not even trying to, I stopped drinking pop, stopped eating all this junk food we always had around the house, and i joined volleyball and i went to basketball camp!.........when i went into 7th grade, people literally stared at me in AWE, i think i lost 25-40 lbs, i never knew, but the skinniest i ever was was 120, but now that im 15 and have more muscle and boobs, and i am 5 ' 10" i am about 150 lbs. this depresses me a bit, but i am NOT fat anymore! i used to have a belly that i couldnt see my thighs unless i was sitting...
i still have a bit of fat there, but you can only tell when i jump up and down, but that is basically my only fatty part besides my thights, but who doesnt have a little bit of jiggle there..
so im saying...DONT DRINK POP, im being a bad girl right now because i have started up again, but that and dont drink a lot of alchohol becuase ive noticed my college aged sister is packing it on! Sweets, and stuff too, they go stttttttraight to your stomach! just think like for example: cheetos. do they look like you could find em naturally in nature? uhh NO. so when i eat something i think about how natural it is. even some cakes, i tell myself, well they used to make cakes in the olden times all the time! lol, but seriously...i need to stop stuffing my face
oh, and cardio! i have really toned stomach muscles, but its just hidden. my doctor said that strength willl not get rid of the fat there, it will only affect the muscles

A healthy, balanced diet and exercise are the only ways to lose excess fat and keep it off.

Develop healthy lifestyle habits.

The combination of aerobic activity and strength training will help the most. There is no exercise that will take just belly fat away. You have to burn up the reserves from your entire body.
