Hi, I'm a young 13 year old female. I am very involved in highland dancing, I am in Premier (the highest level). Yet, My arms and legs are very toned, but my stomach and thighs aren't as good as i want them. We have to have a good core in highland dancing, and I run about 40-80 minutes a day, I do an ab/leg workout everyday and I dance almost every day. I have a very active lifestyle yet I find myself always eating more than I want to eat. I walk into the kitchen And just start snacking. How can i stop snacking between meals?

It may be useful to take up a new hobby or to also try the book on weight loss by dr. Phil which explains why we eat for no reason and how to prevent it

You are a very healthy weight and you seem to be in great physical shape because of your daily exercise. I don't see any problem with what you are doing. It is natural for a healthy, active individual like you to eat often. In fact, doctors and nutritionists recommend that active adults eat 4-6 small meals a day, instead of 3 big meals. So if you are snacking 6 times a day, instead of eating 3 meals a day, you are doing fine.
Just make sure that your snacking habit doesn't get out of control. If you find yourself snacking excessively, or eating out of boredom, or eating unhealthy foods (sugary, fatty foods instead of fruits, whole grains, vegetables, and dairy products) then you should just push yourself to get out of the kitchen. Before you put anything in your mouth, think about your reason for eating. Are you eating because you're bored? Are you eating even though you're not hungry? If so, put it down!
This isn't about feeling guilty--it's just knowing what you're doing and making a healthy choice.
If you are having problems with eating discipline, then set 6 regular times during the day when you can eat. Give yourself a nice healthy food to eat at each of these times. Don't eat at any other times. If you pick filling, healthy foods (a fruit, a bowl of low-sugar cereal, a piece of whole wheat toast, a slice of cheese), this should be more than enough to satisfy your hunger and keep you away from the kitchen.
Ask for your mom and dad's help. Since you are so young, show them this answer and have them take you to the doctor to give you the best advice. It is natural for someone at your young age and activity level to eat and be hungry. You are a growing girl. Eat and be happy!

If you're 5'6" and only 110 and that's mostly muscle, I bet you have a better body than you are willing to admit. I play the bagpipes, and I know how highland dancer's thighs are probably the strongest things on earth.
Try getting your mom to buy MORE snack food, but get the really healthy snack food, like sunflower seeds, almonds, more fruit, etc. Try to get hooked on healthy snacks. I've been eating a lot of pistachios, myself.

Try keeping celery sticks and carrots in the fridge to snack on..
But you sound insanely in good shape, especially with an ab workout everyday that should have given you a good core even with your snacking...

you sound like you are in very good shape. try eating raw fruits and veggies when you snack, and before meals. a friend of mine, who is a health fanatic, has three kids and looks amazing! she also runs every morning, but she swears that the fresh, raw fruits and veggies are the key!

well, sometimes you might eat when u r bored. that is what i just got out of the habit of. but it takes 20 min for your stomach to realize it is full. so try to eat slower and savor the flavor!
