We adopted a 5 mo. old female Pug yesterday. She, so far seems to be adjusting very well to her new home. Have only had 1 potty accident, and seems very eager to please. Are there any Pug parents that would have any general suggestions to training her, and making her a happy loving baby girl? She is very loveable but...also very very high energy, which is ok with us....we have kids to help keep her entertained.....Thanks for any suggestions anyone has to offer!

Because they have such a short snout, it's a bit difficult for them to breathe in the hot humidity of summer. We used to take the balloons that you make animals out of and fill them with water, make a collar from them and freeze them. When we went for a walk on a hot day Chang wore an ice collar kept him cooler and his breathing wasn't labored. Don't let the beastie play with the balloon collar-too easy to shred and get lodged in doggy's tummy. Definitely agree with the feeding corn ingredients are a disaster and can cause some dogs to be hyperactive.

Avoid any dog food that has corn, wheat or soy. The corn and wheat very often cause 'hot spots' on pugs, and the soy will cause excess, smelly gas! Pugs also have high sensitivity/allergy to flea bites..
Watch carefully during hot weather, as pugs get over-heated very easily..Play only gently when the weather is hot.

I LOVE pugs...
We used to have many foster children, and our pug adopted them all..He was so awesome, with ALL of the kids..He made them feel at home, from day one..

I have a four year old little pug girl. Pugs are great little dogs but tend to be more attached to one special person. They love to be cuddled but can be hard to potty train. Just be patient, she may backslide once in a while. I would advise keeping an eye on her face wrinkles. Sometimes they need to be cleaned. I have noticed that they do hate to be alone, ours has to sleep in our room every night, and the snoring! lol CONGRATULATIONS, you picked a good dog.

well i don't have a pug, i have a bulldog, but i got her during last summer so i was home most of the time. in order to get her comfortable around the house i would sit with her on the floor at times and she would climb onto me and just sleep there also at night she sleeps in my room so she could get used to me. theres nothing more you can do except not leave her alone for long periods of time.

Pugs are great fun! Be careful with her around water, pugs don't swim very well initially. They can learn, but their body structure lends itself to sinking! Also, get your pup used to having her feet touched and played with. Pugs have really fast growing toenails that can grow into the pads of their feet so they need lots of nail trims. It helps if you get them used to having their feet handled.

Pugs are brilliant! They have a face that looks like they have crashed head first into a brick wall, and have a curly tail.

Fascinating creatures.

Make sure you do not let her out in extremely hot weather, it will be difficult for her to breath.
