People didn't evolve from monkeys! Monkeys and people both evolved from a common ancestor, that's why there are both now. It's not so much hokus pokus as it is supported by about 150 years of scientific data and experimentation. No brainwashing necessary. In fact, evolution is the cornerstone of all the life sciences, including medicine. If you've ever been treated by a doctor, or helped by a pharmaceutical drug, then you should be glad that there are people that took the time to gain a deep understanding of evolutionary theory. Without it, you wouldn't have that doctor, or that pill.
As far as school curriculum goes, since the type of government that we have in America is known as a secular democratic republic, then the public schools really shouldn't be be providing children a christian education, though parents are free to pay for that privately. You see, our government is mandated by the Constitution of the United States to remain neutral in matters of faith, though it sometimes has difficulty following that mandate.
This difficulty is evidenced by the adoption of the new national motto, "In god we trust". This was adopted in 1954, though for the almost 200 years before that, the country ran fine with the original motto, "E Pluribus Unam", which is latin for "Out of Many, One." Also around the same time, the pledge of allegiance was edited to include the infamous words "under god". Before that, the country made it through 2 world wars and the great depression with a pledge that was completely secular.
Of course, you would know all of this if you studied history, civics and science as zealously as you study the bible. I don't blame you, however. I'm sure that indoctrination from birth and pressure from family had a lot to do with how your priorities got knocked so far out of whack. It's sad, really.

AARRRRRGH, you people are positively exasperating in the level of your ignorance!
Man did NOT evolve from monkeys (for the millionth time). Monkeys are a LOWER ORDER PRIMATE than apes. Humans and apes share a common simian ancestor, but it was only distantly related to monkeys.
Put down your bible for a while and pick up a biology textbook. Do us the common courtesy of learning about what you're fighting against, so at least you can ask intelligent questions. You're making other Christians look foolish, and that isn't what atheists (the responsible ones, anyway) necessarily want to do.
BTW, there is a lot more "hocus pocus" in the bible than there is in any biology text. At least science looks for ALL the answers, instead of stopping at "God did it."
And lastly, there is still a wall between church and state. "A good solid Christian Education [your caps]" can be obtained through homeschooling, or any bible-based private or parochial school. Personally I don't want my property tax money going to religious indoctrination. Kids need to learn how to read, write, and think. They can learn about gods at home.

Why DO, you mean. Does implies that you were speaking in the singular when in fact you were speaking about liberals as a group.
Anyway, they want it taught because while it may not be the ONLY answer, it is a damn good one and in our schools, children should be taught all aspects of something and it should not be regulated by some neo-con like yourself. Even if we live in a nation that is separated by church and state.
Also, us evolving from moneys is any less plausible than God saying "let there be man!" and we were here??? Ok. Sounds like a fairy tale to me.
And obviously the monkey you evolved from wasn't a bright as the monkey I came from, so neh!

Yeah, because a "Good, solid, Christian Education" certainly seems to have done a great job with you. "Hokus, pokus"? I do believe you meant; Hocus Pocus? In which case we're talking about the Theory of Evolution- Not Witch Craft.
The way I see it, God would like for us to be open minded, and educated in all areas. That includes being knowledgeable in the Scientific study of Evolution...yeah, she's open-minded like that.

The push to teach evolutionary theory in classrooms is derived from the overall desire to give students an education that is based in scientific evidence, reason and logic.
If you feel that reason and logic are purely liberal values, then I suppose you could say that it is part of the liberal agenda.
A grounding in science and reason gives students the tools to interpret and understand the universe in a methodical, logical, consistent way, rather than superstition and fable.
One part of that scientific education is the many thousands of pieces of evidence that indicate that the theory of evolution is the best (in many cases only) explanation we have for observed facts like the anatomical and genetic similarities between man and apes, the distribution of animal species around the world, or the progression of fossil species in chronometric sequence.
Beyond that, public schools shouldn't be providing a 'good, solid, Christian Education' because not everyone in the public is a Christian.

send your kids to a religious school then, public schools are for the public! Science has been proven, religion is just faith based on a belief system created by men who could not solve the answers to life. Why should your religion be imposed upon those who do not subscribe to it?
Show me one grain of fact that this world was created by an all powerful being or that living a good and wholesome, CONSERVATIVE, traditional, gun-toting, prolife, support our troops kind of lifestyle is anymore correct than generations of study based on fact that there are similiariteis between primates and humans and that you could correlate the evolution of the species based on such?
why is that, even today, religion is being called into question by the media ( youll probably say the media is liberal now, ill save you the time)
why is it you rightwing nut jobs can condemn a nation for choosing its government to operate under the code of islam and yet glorify and promote for a government to run under the code of christianity? its the same thing, your all hypocrits but are too ignorant to realize it. or maybe you do realize it and just want to keep things the way they are because, afterall, religion has always been afraid of change....and truth!
this question is a joke

Oh my God. Wow. I am appalled at many of the answers I see posted to a simple question. How in the hell can some of you sit here and oppose the God who made you? The same God who gave His only begotten Son to die for you so your life can be spared? You all are talking about the Bible is outdated and whatnot, but it's the greatest book (manual to life) that I've ever read, and I'm a high school English teacher--soon to be radiologist--Valedictorian in "public" high school--graduated from college with honors, enrolled in grad school--so I know that I have a well-rounded education, and I achieved all of this through prayer and the grace of God. If you would pick up the Bible and get somewhat of an understanding of it, you will see that "history" repeats itself--which was the main reason why God wiped out the earth with the flood.
And no one is trying to "push" Christianity on anybody. I'm sorry if you all have had bad experiences with certain "Christians," but they're people just like anybody else--they don't have a Heaven or a hell to put you in. Like I do with the evolution concept, I hear it and ignore it. I don't have to believe it, and I refuse to believe it because I will fight the battle if somebody is going to shove down my throat some atheist bull crap that I came from some freakin' "monkey." I feel for you all if you actually condone the teachings that you came from the same ancestor of apes and monkeys...Why would you admit that anyway? Depite all of the "science and facts," and I'm not putting anybody down because that's not my style--I have the mind of Jesus--but just because cows give milk mean that we have the common ancestry of a cow?
And I see the "separation of church and state" mentioned like it's a scripture... Hmmmm...Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that everyone who agrees that evolution should be part of the school curriculum is an idiot, I'm saying that people shouldn't act ignorant because real Christians are standing up for what they believe in. Don't bash Christianity because that's a dangerous thing to do. I Love the Lord, and I'm not going to hell for anybody. God has done all these wonderful things for us, and I can witness to that! And Christian and Education don't have to go together for all I care. Knowing the Constitution by heart, figuring out the organic chemistry equation, calculating the half-life of lithium, or learning the laws of physics is not going to get me into Heaven. Being as smart as Einstein doesn't mean a thing if I don't know Jesus. I promise if you try Him, you'll never turn back. I'm praying for my brothers and sisters in this sad nation.
P.S. I could care less what any negative comments will follow or what anybody thinks of this post. As I have mentioned before, nobody on this earth has a Heaven or a hell to put me in. So any comments you wish to "lash out" at me will prove you're an idiot just like I figured. It takes two fools to argue so I'll just leave you to handle the job yourself.

different than the completed lack of wisdom you exhibit right here, that's recommended to give some thought to what you have stated. that's the so-referred to as christian morality that has twisted the full thought of intercourse and sexuality interior the western worldwide. The previous puritanical attitudes are nonetheless in stress. perchance in case you could sit down which comprise your bible, a solid lexicon to look up unique meanings of wirds, and study you could have the means to open your strategies to the actual teachings of Christ. Your lack of wisdom is a results of no longer doing any study on your man or woman yet quite being led with the help of one extra twisted preacher. those human beings that KOW the classes of Christ and the real purpose of the previous testomony texts all desire you will discover your way.

Apparently that good christian education doesn't include spelling. I am a rabid liberal and not an atheist, and my tax money doesn't need to pay for "christian" education in my public schools. Our forefathers believed in the division of church and state for a reason. Oh that would be American History and American Civics, which apparently aren't included in a christian education either.

Not all liberals believe in evolution. I am Christian, believe in creation and am still liberal enough to believe that people have a right to believe in whatever they want to believe in, as long as they don't force their beliefs on others. The schools should provide education; religion should be taught and practiced at home and in church.
