Be a good neighbor and give her kitten support.

Tell her she needs to prove your cat impregnated her cat, there had better be DNA or photos for proof or your cats semen on her cats bed or something. She can't make you pay for anything all though you are both in the wrong for not already having your animals spayed and neutered. She doesn't have to have the kittens you know. I'm sure this will stir up a hornets nest, but she could have her spayed right now and there wouldn't be any kittens to support. Vets do that all the time and it's not any different than a regular spay. I would offer to help her spay her cat OR go in halves for a screen for her window. But please be responsible and get your male neutered asap to avoid more of these instances. If you had any idea the amount of sick, unwanted, abused, homeless kittens we see on a regular basis, you wouldn't allow your cat out of the house unneutered.

No...she can't get any kind of "support" for her kittens......yes, I agree, she should close her window..or at least have screens...however....your cat is your responsibility.....you should put in a cat run that will allow your cat to be outdoors...yet still be in your care/custody and control. Allowing any animals to run loose is not good for the animal. Guess your lucky he went in the neighbors house and not out in the road in front of a car, huh? Should keep your cat safe from all harm......

Your fault, Its your responsiblity to keep track of your cat at all times and to NUTER him, So yes i think you are resposible for the extra food the lady has to buy to feed the extra mouths she now has because of YOUR cat, he tresspassed and went in to her home and violated her cat.
If you love your cat, get a ENCLOSED area for your cat to roam in, cause your contributing to the already over run of unwatned cats. Who knows how many he has impregnanted so far.

SO cough up some cash, get your cat fixed and buy some food for those kitten your cat created with the other, help find homes for them and get them fixed before hand also. So come to an agreement with the lady. That lady never wanted any kittens by the way it sounds. So be responsible.

Yes

Animals are personal property, and depending on the state, there could be laws holding you responsible for the damages your property (your cat) caused.

Even if there are no local laws that would penalize you for letting the cat roam, she can always file a civil suit and sue you anyway, since your cat counts as your property and you are liable for any damages it causes, including trespassing on her private property.

You're probably better off coming to a compromise with your neighbour - the cost of cat supplies for a few months is cheaper than going to court.

if your cat got in, hers could have gotten out. PLUS a litter can have multiple fathers, so your cat may not be the father of all.
but you should try working with her to help her find homes for them, as the both of you should have had your cats altered and made sure they stayed in their respective homes.
but legally, i do not think you are responsible since she did have her window open. just because your cat spent the night does not mean that he fathered the kittens. she would have known her cat was in heat & that an open window would be an invite to any tom in the area, not to mention an invite for her own cat to escape!

It would probably be very difficult for her to prove your cat was the father...unlikely they'd do paternity testing on a cat...seems a bit extreme.
That said, you need to be a more responsible pet owner and have your cat neutered. Especially if you are going to let it room free (also not recommended). Whether you are held responsible for the kittens or not you have personally contributed to the pet overpopulation problem by your negligence.

Sounds like an episode of Judge Joe Brown! It's your fault.. Your cat went into her house, not vice versa. If her cat came to your house and did the nasty with your cat then that would be her fault. But that's not what happened.

lol, i'm 99% sure she can't take any legal action against you. She can't force you to pay "kitten support". If she was that bothered about it, she should have had her cat spayed! (although saying that i guess you could say you should have had ur cat fixed too but that's not the point). Maybe after this experience you will get your cat fixed and then you won't have t worry about anything like this happening again :)

She cannot put you on child support because you did not sleep with her cat. She may be able to put your cat on child support for the kittens.

Both of your cats should have been fixed. You're both responsible.
I think you owe her half of the money to take care of the kittens and finding them a home.
Dumb, dumb.
