Why did Jesus do miracles
1) Messiah was expected to do very great miracles
eg Isaiah 61 "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has send me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives"
2) Demonstrating Gods compassion
- he healed everyone asking by my reading of the gospels
3) Some of the miracles are signs about his mission and identity
- turning water into wine
- multiplying bread and feeding the people
- walking on water, calming storms
- raising the dead back to life
4) Partly as an example of how to do it
The church is meant to be doing miracles as John 14:12 says, partly to show compassion, and partly as God's hallmark on the gospel message. (Some happen, but many many more needed.)
[Religions like Islam try to make out that the christian message is distorted but the fact that God will do these things only in Jesus' name disproves such claims.]
----------------------------
Jesus purpose
1) To provide a more satisfactory covenant, whereby people can be forgiven and made acceptable to God, and receive eternal life now and after physical death.
This required a perfect sacrifice, so He had to be a sinless perfect lamb, and had to be God, to provide effective atonement.
2) To show what God is actually like
He is the image of God, the Word of God, the exact representation of his being.
-----------------------
How did God want people to follow
1) The covenant and right of birth from above is satisfied when people believe and confess he is Son of God, Saviour, died for our sins and rose again from the dead.
This is what Jesus wants for every person, so that they enter God's kingdom.
2) Forming a fellowship of believers, "the Church".
3) Receiving the Holy Spirit to enable evangelisation and growth into good, helpful, fulfilled people
The Holy Spirit helps in other ways
3) Through fellowship, reading the Word, prayer, teaching, the communion/mass sacrament to develop and mature in the faith

Jesus did miracles to show He is God. He could have cured every sickness in the world if He chose to, but He didn't, that wasn't His purpose. He did a few miracles so that those who had eyes to see would know that He truly is divine, the second member of the trinity, God incarnate.
His purpose was the reveal God to those who had either never known Him or were burdened with the laws that the Pharisee's and Sadducee's had added to the perfect law.
Joh 14:9 Jesus said to him, Am I so long a time with you, and you have not known Me, Philip? The one seeing Me has seen the Father! And how do you say, Show us the Father?
His main mission was to come and die for the sins of His people.
Joh 10:11 I am the Good Shepherd! The Good Shepherd lays down His life on behalf of the sheep.

Jesus performed miracles because they not only helped to identify him as the Messiah but they were a foregleam of what he would do in the future time when he would apply the value of his ransom sacrifice so that all people would suffer no more from the ill effects of sickness and death. The miracles were theological in nature – not medical.
His purpose was, among other things, to show that (1) a perfect man could remain perfectly obedient to God no matter the pressure; (2) fulfill the Mosaic law; (3) preach and teach the good news of God's Kingdom; (4) and provide the propitiatory sacrifice that would give mankind the opportunity to live forever.

This is a really good question and I'll try to answer it the best way I know how! If you read the bible you will find out that Jesus is the "I am" he is God wrapped in flesh, You have to understand that God is Holy and He is all truth and with us being human we have a tendency to do things based off of emotions and not off of what is right. Jesus is our bridge to be united with our father again and through him do we see Gods glory. Think about it like this if Jesus wouldn't have come and died for us we would not live again meaning we would be able to enter heaven and see our love ones. Also think about it like this He is our father and we are his children and like any earthly parent child relationship our parents allow us to make mistakes and if we get too far off track we are punished for it right!? As human we are born evil it its already inside of us it is up to us to make the choice to do right or wrong and thats the thing God gave us free will. I hope this helps. Also It was Jesus love for us for him to agree to this he love you too. Thats why he was persecuted for being so truthful and real He would tell the religious leaders in his day that the they were telling the people lies and condemn them to make them pay more tithes for there sins, he also told them that the prostitutes and tax collectors would see heaven before they would because they were misleading the people! I suggest you read Matthew, Mark ,Luke and John of the New Testament to get a full understanding and the love of Jesus and Gods Love for you and I! He came to save us from ourselves!

You must be careful of what the ones whom translated that new testament has done such as totally exaggerating or just not translating properly ( fact)!
His purpose was to give hope and some order to so much chaos about him at the time, but most of all he was a teacher and many forget his greatest gift to be this. The intentions of wisdom and spirituality becomes null and void when they worship him and claim him to be Allah (god)! And this false claim must be corrected for this has led to the millions to be lost! now whom has the gull and the strength to show them the proper way and that is - Prophet Jesus (PBUH)! is a great prophet not Allah, must not be prayed to or thru. All that is requested and worshiped should only be done to the Most High!

The primary reason that Jesus did miracles was not to meet peoples needs! The primary reason was so that people would believe on him as the Messiah, and receive life everlasting from him; in short, that they might be reconciled to God.
Jesus purpose was to bring man salvation from his sin and to lead him to a more understanding existence of his father and to teach love instead of hate.

Miracles were to show that He is God
His purpose was to fullfill the prophesies of the OT and to tell people about the Kingdom of Heaven
The Bible tells us how we are to follow - that is a very long answer

Jesus' purpose was to become the sacrifice for our sins so that the blood atonement was paid once and for all.
He did miracles because He had compassion on the people.

Jesus did miracles to show He was who he said He was...the Son of God. And to help those who doubted.
His purpose was to save the world from their sin by His death on the cross.
God wants us to trust in His death for our sins for our salvation - to put our lives in His hands, and to live a life that is pleasing to Him (turn from our sin).

His purpose was to disarm the Archons and the authorities (Colossians 2:15), and save us from enslavement to Yaldaboath (Yahweh), so that we may live life more abundantly (John 10:10).
