I have been wanting to get a sparrow tattooed on me because I've heard it symbolizes finding your true love/soulmate or something along those lines. I thought it would be a great idea instead of putting my fiance's name on me....cause that's just bad luck haha! But I've also heard that a lot of prisoners get it when they get out of jail cause it means freedom. And I know it's a really popular tattoo right now so like everyone has it but I want to get this one because of it's meaning. But I wanted to ask if I am even correct on the meaning....or is it just a bad idea?? i have 2 sparrows mine are becuase of the hymn "his eye is on the sparrow and i know he watches me". i think a tattoo that you get can mean whatever you want it to mean. theres people out there that take one thing and turn it into 400 other meanings. so if a sparrow is what you want to represent your fiance then if someone asks, then tell them its for him!

I've looked around at several sources, and they all say different things. Sailors would get one after traveling a certain number of nautical miles, prisoners when released from jail, and when in love.
I like the idea, and I don't normally like tattoos. But I really think that if you love the idea that much then you should definitly go for it.

A tattoo can mean whatever you want it to mean althought getting a sparrow is the cliche tattoo lately. There might be another bird you could get that hold the same meaning?

I think all tattoos are bad ideas. You live with it for life or have to go to a great deal of trouble to get rid of it. What's wrong with the way you are? Why is it that you feel a need to make a statement like this?
