Before you all point and laugh at the idiot (me, haha), take a second to answer!

I'm ready to put glaze on an angel food cake. Which end is the "top?" The custy side, or the smooth side?

My grandmother used to make this, but it's been so many years that I can't remember which side she put the glaze on.

When you flip the pan over on to a plate, the side that is smooth on top and bottom is the where you icing.

The top part, the part that you don't icing is the part that you could see while cooking.

I looks like everyone has there own preference. I put any topping on the crusty side, just because the smooth side is needed to sit flat on the plate and not rocking around. I guess you could trim the crusty part off to make both ends smooth, but don't drizzle anything on the cut, exposed end; the icing will soak all the way through the cake and make it mush in less than a minute!

The top - the crusty side that was exposed to the air in the oven.

The smooth side is the part that was in the pan... also, it's the flat side so it would sit on the plate properly.

It really makes no difference, I always just put powered sugar and strawberries on mine.
