God cares about every aspect of your life. Math tests included. He's your FATHER. He cares.
You can pray to God about anything.
You can pray for what you consider a selfish reason. But it isn't selfish to ask for His help on something to help you succeed, like school work or job promotion.
And, be sure to thank Him, and tell Him you love Him.
I mean, I talk to Him about everything, because He is my Best Friend. I am not ashamed to come to Him for anything ---
He knows all about it already.

Praying for selfish reasons is OK. Christ said to pray over our flocks and herds---in other words, pray even about little things which are for our temporal welfare, such as tests and the like. God wants you to put in the effort and work, though. Also, make it so that's not the only thing you ever pray for---thank the Lord, ask for his guidance and his will, etc. But praying even about little things I think God would approve of. I know he's helped me a lot. Especially when I asked more for things which show I put in the effort. For instance, if you pray that your mind will be clear while you study and that you will be able to recollect what you studied and as a result do well on the test, that's better than praying to get a good grade.

Why wouldn't God help you? Studying probably wouldn't make you holier but trusting in God to care for you and help you would.
I know what you mean about the prayer, sometimes I feel that way to, but if you just talk to God like a person it might help you feel more confident. Asking God to help you with a math test is not selfish. He's not petty that way.
It increases your faith and joy to give all of your stresses, large or small, over to God.

We are instructed in Scripture to pray about everything. God is concerned about everything in your life, even your study habits. If you profess to be a believer in Jesus Christ as your Savior, pray is something done about everything at all times. God may, or may not, answer a particular prayer regarding some school topic (for me it was algebra) but we need to pray anyway. Remember, God cares for you and loves you. If you pray and get a "no" answer, God answered your prayer. Never give up on prayer, it is our direct communication with the Creator of the universe. Never stop praying.

You can pray for anything you want and maybe you'll get it. Do the best with what you are given to work with and then God can help you do the rest. Example: Prepare for your math test, put the time in do as much as you can, then pray that you will be able to apply what you have learned. Also, pray before you study that you will be able to understand and focus. You can never pray wrong, you can ask amiss for sure, but you will never know unless you ask. Pray to do the will of God and to know the truth in all things. Pray always. In the name of Jesus Christ.

Praying is a private conversation between you and your God. So it's really okay to talk about anything or to ask for anything - help in your tests, help in your baseball games, help in your relationship with friends, etc., etc. And its always nice to end your conversation/prayer with a "Thank You, Amen" - meaning to say you're confident that help is the way (faith). Please be aware that while all prayers are answered it may not be in the exact form as you asked for. If you pray to get an "A" in your math test yet you did not even put any effort to study/review, don't be surprised if you get a "C" - that is God's answer to your prayer - he's saying "C'mon ,dude, don't make me do all the work." Oh yeah, God has a glorious sense of humor. Here's another example: You want to go see a movie with your friends...your mom wouldn't let you...so you ask your friend God to make your mom change her mind...so you try again --- "Mom, can I go to the movies, please, pretty please? Your mom says -"NO, and for the last time, NO!" So you go to God and complain "Hey, man, why didn't you help me?" and He answers "Dude, I tried...but your mom talked to my Mom too --- we both got our *** kicked!"
SMILE!

well its up to you really..... i dont think you should be too concerned about going to hell for asking for some guidance over a maths test!! lol, technically if God is the Creator, he should know everything; ergo he probably knows that humans tend to be a little on the selfish side - so as long as it isnt completely greedy and it doesnt harm anyone, I'd say pray away! You either get a sign or you dont, but be gracious and accept it if you don't....Amen

When you have a problem in any situation, aren't there people you go to for help - like parents, a friend, a tutor, a teacher, someone? Well, God wants to be all things to you...Best friend, parent, tutor, teacher etc. He loves you so much He wants to be a part of everything you do and everything you are. God bless you as you discover the wonders of God in personal involvement!

It is always good to pray, prayer simply means talking to God. Also don't look at God as someone that wants to zap you or is always upset with you because cause thats not how God is. He is your heavenly Father. You are His child. He loves to hear from His children,it makes his day. We are created in His image. He has fellings and emotions just like we do. He created you because He wanted someone jut like you to love Him.
