If it is merely dry on the ends, simply trimming it will help. If, however, it appears to be dry all over........Then it needs not only moisture, but protien to hold in the moisture.
I recommend a quality shampoo and conditioner. One of my favorites (which are Redkin, Nexxus, and Mastey) is NexxusTherapy shampoo, or Nexxus Biotin Shampoo, and Nexxus Humectress conditioner. Remember, these are quality products, and they will cost a little more than the street shampooes you can purchase in the grocery stores. But, at the same time; these actually work, they actually condition, and you only need to use a fraction of the amount compared to street products.
In the end, dollar for dollar, quality wins every time. Anything else is only going to give you what I call the "Downey effect".
Good luck. You will be pleasantly surprised.

The condition of your hair, is an indication of your general health. Are you eating proper foods? You may need vitamin and mineral supplements, wont hurt to try for a few weeks. You can always use a dab of hair oil on your hands, and smooth over your hair to keep it under control. Anything on the surface is only temporary, and will wash out, or if it penetrates, can only cause more damage. Try eating more whole grains, quality proteins, dairy and fruits and vegetables. Best wishes

Burt's Bees Avocado Butter Pre-Shampoo Hair Treatment is great - you can use it before you shampoo, or on dry hair. Also, Aveda Deep Penetrating Hair Revitalizer. If it is really bad, use both - it works!

Use a good hair moisturizer treatment once a week. Also a hot oil pack treatment is great. Also, use a moisturizing shampoo and do not wash your hair every day.

Get in a warm bath, wash your hair twice, then rinse it. Smoother it with conditioner and wrap at hot towel around your head whilst you have a long soak.

Rinse the conditioner off with clean warm water then finish with a cold rinse. It will be lovely and soft and shiny!
