I'm in a country like that. The secret is to join in, to volunteer to do much needed jobs in whatever field is permissible under the system of the country where you live. (Many countries forbid even unpaid work where you don't have the appropriate documents, so you have to be careful). And smile a lot and be pleasant. Meanwhile, just forget what colour you are and perhaps they will too!

does it matter what colour you are?? i get sick of people even saying does it matter.... colour smuller - people are people no matter where you go - they'll have a different culture and different beliefs to you, but as long as you respect them for that, and get to know someone as an individual - then you'll do fine.

Honor their customs and traditions. Don't expect them to understand you. Be polite. And feel free to ask questions when you have no clue about anything - but make sure your questions are neutral or positive and don't imply that their customs might seem strange.

just be yourself and be very respectfully, you may not know their culture very well so try not to offend them.
