It depends on how many hours of napping he/she has during the day. My kids were always in bed at 8:30, but they napped in the afternoons.

About 5 minutes before s/he melts down, and right before you do too!
Honestly, each kid is different. Some need naps and sleep a lot at night, others don't nap & sleep a lot less than their parents want them to. The best way to gauge is if the child appears to have enough energy throughout the day, wakes easily in the morning, and doesn't show signs of needing to go to bed before getting there. For example, both of my kids (4 years apart) would bite me if I didn't get them to bed when they needed it. Weird huh? My standard bedtime for my kids has always been 8 or 8:30 (they're still young) because 8:30 is when my patience runs out. Hope that helps!

It really depends on your schedule. If you work 1st shift and everyone is up early then I would say no later than 9pm. When I was on 1st my son went to sleep between 8 and 9. Now that we are on 2nd shift hours we are up later. He is usually asleep by 11 and we get up between 9 and 10. I know that people may not agree with it but if you are not a morning person and don't have to get up early for work or something else then you don't want your baby up at 6 or 7 am. Every family is different. Just make sure that your little one gets enough hours of sleep. Good luck I hope this helps.

Wow, what are you guys doing with your kids???? My daughter does not go to sleep until like midnight. I have to be at work at 6am so I drop her off at daycare at 530am I call and have them wake her up about 730 8am and no naps but she is like the energizer bunny she does not stop going. I figured if she doesn't nap and she plays all day she will be exhausted by at least 900 not a chance. I even took her to the doctor because I thought something was wrong with her but they said children go to bed when they want to and you can not make a child go to sleep which does make sense...Like most of the other answers are between 730pm-9pm but honestly it's your childs decision, just because you put them in bed at 8 doesn't mean they will fall asleep so you have to know your child and what time he/she usually goes to sleep ...I've come to terms with the fact that my 2 yr. old can stay up later than I can. Good Luck!!

About 8 or 8:30 at teh latest. MY son has always gone down at 8, and is up by 6 am three days a week, and up at 7 or 7:30 if I don't have to wake him up.

Depends on how many and how long naps he takes.
At 18 months, my son was in bed at 8 pm, woke up at 7 am and took one nap ( 11/2 hr - 2 hrs) in the afternoon.

8 or 9 pm. Depending on the child's sleepiness and how early you get him/her up in the morning.
Early enough you can have some quiet time alone with DH.

When parent gets tired. But seriously, how about 8 p.m. when "family hour" comes on TV. Family hour of course contains shows that are slightly less objectionable than later on.
