I got pulled over sunday morning at 245 on the Mass pike doing 77. the thing about it is that he pulled me over with 2 other cars at the same time, and we were pulled over on an off ramp to our exit. we were all following each other and i was the middle car, now i do not know what he said he clocked the first car at, but the car behind me only had a ticket of 75. the whole ordeal seemed really dangerous and like cop tried to make the best of his fortune and pull all three of us over, but implemented a little guess work? does this sound like i have something of substance in court?

i wasnt doing 77 on the off ramp, we just got pulled over on the off ramp, he clocked me half a mile before that and didnt catch up untill then- and i only know the person behind me, 77 on the highway is in no way a large number and the fine is only 120, i just do not need the extra 3 points on my license

No, you don't, plus you'll have the court charges, which will add to your total expense.

I think you're not only screwed, but looking to screw the system. The fact that the third car was "only" going 75 mph (in what? An Off Ramp limit of 35?) has absolutely no bearing on the speed of the second car (your vehicle); the police officer has every right to pull over as many evil-doers at one time as he feels fit and able to do. I'd pay the (hopefully VERY hefty) fine - at least $ 500, take the points - (if any are assessed in your State), shut my mouth, learn a lesson and say a prayer you were stopped by an officer of the law and not a bridge abutment!!!

I would go in and say that the two other cars were racing, and that when they saw the cops, one whipped in front of you, and one whipped behind you - you were worried about being rear-ended so you accelerated and got clocked, although you were only doing so to keep from causing a wreck.

On the other hand, if you know the other two people (or if you thought to get their contact information) you might be able to pull off a coordinated plan in court - be consistent, and convince the judge that the cop was in the wrong.

Good luck.

Austin, In short no you dont have a case. Traffic tickets are civil infractions not criminal. Your best bet would be to pay the fine and slow down. If you wanna go to court thats your choice but i'm gonna be very blunt with you the standard of proof that the state has to provide is basically " officer how fast was the defendant going " after that its up to you to prove your case. I dont know how much speeding tickets are where your from but I am pretty sure it would cost you more to defend yoursef over a ticket than it would cost for you to just pay it. If you do fight it keep in mind that if you loose you will also owe court costs and fees

Unfortunately, the speed limit is the speed limit. In the criminal justice system, there's a thing called a standard of proof. The cop has reasonable suspicion. This is more than a gut feeling, including the ability to articulate reasons for suspicion. The officer is legally permitted to stop a suspect. There are highway patrol laws that govern the duties of police officers. He might have "implemented a little guess work" but that is his duty. He has reasonable suspicion.

You were speeding as so are guilty. If you want to, depending on your state laws, you may want to go to the court to see if you can go to traffic school if this is your first offense (and maybe if it's not) or you can ask the judge to take off the points if you'd be willing to do some community service. In fact some courts allow you to pay off everything doing community service. You might as well go ask about it anyways it's not like you've got anything more to loose.

The police can pull over as many cars as they can handle at any point in time. If they clocked the car behind you at 75 (and it didn't run you over) then he knows he has you for at least that much. Most likely your only chance to challenge it would be to go to court and hope like hell that the cop doesn't show. =/

You admitted doing 77. Two miles per hour will make little to no difference on the ticket. Pay the fee and watch the lead foot.

does not sound such as you are able to instruct that some unusual scent out of your house led to your wellness issues, yet you are able to communicate with a criminal expert to get you out of your lease. Dont anticipate getting any money from it except you have some genuine, valid information. are not maximum apartment agreements (leases) basically a million year long? Why have you ever stayed there over a million year whilst you're so unhappy?

I don't think you have much to go on. I've seen this happen plenty of times where cops will normally pull over more than one vehicle at a time.
