Meds will only be able to control the pain for so long.
You can give a condriotion and gulcosamine suppliment to help stimulate her body to produce more fluid to lubricate the joints but it is not a cure.
Surgery is the only real answer for this problem and sometimes it is not able to be done. It is very expensive to have done but not all dogs are able to have it done. Sometimes the joints are to bad.
When you cna not control the pain for your pet euthanasia is the kindest option. It is very hard and I know how you feel I have a nine year old weim who has one side hip dispalsic. Now he is not on meds and is pain free but we restrict how much exercise he gets and what he does, no jumping. I know some day that I will be facing the same decision.

take her to the vet. she may need hip replacement surgery, I'm sure you,ll pay a lot for it, but the out come of hip replacement surgery should be a good one. she should at least be better than before the procedure. ask the vet what's going on? if he tells you that she also has other hip problems unrelated to the reasons for the hip surgery, this should be diagnosed and discussed with you prior to surgery. a vet is under the same guide lines as a doctor, to provide "stand of care' to the animals they treat. the surgery is only done if he expects a good out come. she will have to go through physical therapy after this type of surgery. this just means moving her hip and leg around enough after surgery so the tissue (inside) does not scar down in away that is pain full for her later. there are also other types of surgery for this problem. it could also be some type of nerve damage. please don't just give up. hate to hear stories like this. good luck to both of you.

Hi,
I have a choc lab and his hind legs are bad. He stumbles and has a hard time getting up and I help him and he is 119 pounds. I will not put my dog down . I live where we get winter seasons and he has a problem coming up the steps and slides so I put a rug down for him to help him get his footing. I will do anything to help my baby. I may get a ramp in the back to help. I only have three steps for him to come up but sometimes it is hard. He also had his front shoulder operated on when he was a pup as he grew too fast because of the puppy chow. At one time he was 130 pounds. His shoulder also bothers him too My baby is 12 years old but I will do anything to make it easier for him. I give him Ascripton and it is buffered with Maalox for the stomach but you should check with your vet. My vet recommended this for mine. I'm not ready to do anything by putting him down. Good luck and take care and show that you love her. That counts a lot.

Med will help keep her at ease, but keeping her doped up isn't "quality of life". Hip replacement is an option, but extremely painful and expensive.

I was just reading an article somewhere that giving them Vitamin C can reduce the chances of dysplasia and has been know to help those with severe dysplasia. I will try to find it.

unfortunately there is nothing you can do for this dog. There is expensive meds that well help but you well have to take the dog to the vet to get them, it well only make the dog a little comfortable tho, it wont take the problem away.
