Normally, going dutch means you each pay your own bill. So if he only ordered $20 worth of food and you ordered $40, then he has every right to only pay $20. However if he ordered more than the $20 he paid, then he is in the wrong and is cheap besides, dump him.

I mean is this really something to break up with him over? Me personally if I take a girl out on a date then I pay but it sounds like you guys are pretty young and if so maybe $20 is all he had. Besides at least he was only $10 short he could have told you that he has no mony and you pay the $60 by yourself. Give him a break yeah he said he would go half but next time choose an activity that the both of you can afford. Good luck

I wouldn't necessarily dump him. The price of the bill should have been brought up before it was paid so each of you knew what to pay. It's possible he wasn't expecting the bill to be as high as it was and didn't have the money on him. I'm sure he felt embarrassed about it. Give him another chance, and if he does it again, then you know it's over.

Dump someone over $10? If that happens, the person dumping him didn't really care anything about him to begin with...$10 isn't a dealbreaker for a real relationship.

That all depends - did he pay for what he ate ? If you ordered the most expensive thing on the menu and he ate cheap it's not fair for him to pay for your food if you agreed before the date to go dutch.

Depends ...was it a 1st date? did you have a good time? would you want to see him again? Did he order $20 or more?
If they like you....they will go out for free :)
What is his financial situation? I've been one to buy the 1st dinner and the other person to buy the second and alternate.
good luck! Main thing is never compromise on your principles :)

Not if he ordered the salad, and you had the Steak and Lobster! lol
But apart from that, yeah... he should have just paid for the frigging thing... no wonder he's probably a virgin!

I don't think I would dump him only for that reason, but is there more behind it? It sounds that way, was his meal less expensive than yours? Maybe he figures he'll make it up to you next time.
