My father is very similar. It is a pessimistic attitude mixed with a inferiority complex that causes my dad to do it.

Think about your dad's past and see how his relationship with his father was/is like. Also, try to see where your dad is coming from as far as other important relationships with family, friends, and co-workers. Basically, just learn what causes his pessimism and you can avoid having the hurtful words thrown at you.

What you've got to realize is that it is his problem. It's the way he is and be determined that what he says will not undermine your happiness. I know it's easier said then done, but you'll get better at it.

his upbringing probably was a very negative experience so when things are positive in his life he will be uncomfortable thus creativing negativity and more comfortable atmosphere in his eyes. Sorry my dad was the same. It gets old but try to brush it off

Your dad is probably jealous because he sees more potential in you than what he ever had. Sounds weird but some parents dont want their children to suceed. Two reasons.......

1) They dont want you to better than them.

2) If you do suceed they know you wont rely on them as much.

Keep doing what you are doing and dont look for your fathers approval on it. Do what makes you happy and what feels good to you!!

I know some people are just that way. You have to distance yourself from him no matter how hard it hurts.
