This one question, in various forms, causes the church people to foam at the mouth, and then they commence to sudder and freak out, and if it happens to be on Yahoo Answers they have been known to denounce the person asking the question.
If Jesus knew he his death was temporary, and he would rise into the sky and become a god, and he would have the last laugh, and if he wanted he would have the power to smack every member of the Sanhedrin, and anything else he might want to do -- what is the big sacrifice?
The logic of this question is powerful. Whereas the logic of the church people and of their religion is absurd.

Well, then let's assume you believe you'll also be resurrected, hence, giving your life for another person is no sacrifice, right? So, let's start with your "non-sacrifice":
1) Please suffer for all the sins, guilt, infirmities, and sickness of all people who have ever lived or who will ever live. That will last for several hours. The pain of it will crush you flat in an instant unless you are a god, and even then it will cause you to groan with pain and bleed from every pore.
2) Next, I'll get a bunch of my buddies to torture you nearly to death (indeed, many people died from the flogging alone).
3) After that, I will nail your hands and feet to a cross where you can begin an excruciating death of shock, blood loss, and asphyxiation. And while that's happening, you'll have to suffer the pain you suffered in step 1 again.
...... still think it wasn't a sacrifice?

The guy who throws himself on a grenade doesn't suffer as long as Jesus did. If you think being beaten until you back is shredded isn't suffering, you're a fool. If you think having nails pounded into your skin isn't suffering, you're a fool. If you think hanging there by torn up hands and basically drowning in your own blood isn't suffering, you're a bigger fool. Going thru that kind of pain and the humiliation of being laughed at while you're suffering isn't something the guy jumping on the grenade is gonna have to go thru. Sure, Jesus could have stopped it, but He didn't. He didn't stop it because He felt He had to do for us. We're not worth it, yet He did it anyway. If you're not grateful for the chance that He gave you, you're a fool.

The logic is flawed not only in your premise, but in many of the answers as well. Jesus lived as a human being. His death was for all the sins of all mankind. It defies description to imagine the pain and suffering dying for your sins, and mine, along with billions of others must have inflicted on someone who had no sin. It has been written that for a few people maybe a good man would die(your soldier). But who would die for all the "ungood" people. You know, you and me. Those of us who have sinned which leaves out no one for we all have sinned. If your soldier did not know what was coming it was because he had not made a choice. That is all any of us have. The opportunity to make a choice as to where we will spend eternity has been given to us because Jesus went to the cross for us all. His sacrifice is beyond description. He was perfect, the Son of God, without blemish or flaw and yet even though he could have called upon all the angels in Heaven to come to his aid, he choose to jump on the grenade of eternal damnation for you and me. All we have to do is choose. I pray that when you make a choose you look at the only two outcomes available. Choose Jesus and choose life. Do not choose Jesus and choose death.

Jesus' crucifixion was not the sacrifice. It was leaving the pleroma and coming here in the first place, to save us from the rulers of this age.

I agree.
The whole event was known ahead of time by God and Jesus. You could say it was in their plan. Jesus thought he was devine therefore he couldn't really die.
Your right, I am more impressed by the poor sap who throws himself on a grenade to save his buddies knowing that he has absolutely no chance of surviving.

Interesting way of looking at things. Jesus felt all the pain and humiliation. Do you realize that at any time he could have stopped everything? Why didn't he because it was a sacarfice for our sins . Study more about Jesus you will learn alll kinds of things.

Don't forget, Jesus was also fully human. I suggest that you view "The Passion Of The Christ" to get an idea of what crucifixion was really about, then repost your 'question'.

Okay listen up. imagine that you are going to be crucified-the worst, torturous death of that day-AND YOU DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG!!!! Plus, you take on EVERY SINGLE SIN of the world-EVERY ONE! That's what Jesus did. Imagine-everything you EVER did wrong-He took it all on Him.
That's what I call a sacrifice.
