I would like to think a pastor will care about people and be non judgemental. A pastor should be a mentor and provide a listening ear when ever he is needed. He should arrange coffee mornings, jumble sales, mother and toddler groups, sunday school etc to bring the community together. He should assist you in prayer and be friendly and approachable. this is my idea of a pastor hope it helps :0)

First of all...I think they should be paid WELL...when they really do God's work. I am glad I was not called to preach..you think
that's an easy Job...geech. They can't do anything right...everyone trys to tear them apart..like Jesus....and sadly...it's the so-called Christan's that do this..
PRAY PRAY PRAY preach the word of God preach about SIN. Not about not wanting to offend them...real Christains WANT to hear the truth... The word the word the word.Preach the word.
People that are in the Church are suppose to be the helpers and the givers....not the pew warmers. The preacher is usually so busy he goes to hospitals resthomes funerals weddings geeech...the list goes on. Our Pastor is like that...he is also
human...flawed like the rest of us...but I will say this about him he is NO disgusting man after tail. I am very good looking so
see...I know. He won't go to homes of single women...smart man
.
I don't look for perfect Christans...I LOOK for REAL Christan's.

His job is to watch your soul. Listen carefully to his teachings backing it up with the Word. The important thing is that he should be a man of prayer that leads his people to pray. Last, he should put God first, family second, and ministry third. That's the accountability of a good pastor.

Depends on the type of pastor/type of church.
I'm the pastor of a Zen Buddhist church. I am responsible for making certain the religious training is as complete as possible, that types of practice are available to all who wish it.
I'm not ordained, so I cannot perform marriages or funerals.

The analogy of the shepherd of the sheep helps:
1) Feed the people (sheep) with the Word of God
2) Lead them to the water, which is the Holy Spirit
3) Call them to higher ground
The example of Christ is also important as the Great Shepherd, who gave His life for the sheep. From this, we get:
4) Love the sheep

Since the word "Pastor" is Greek for "Shepherd", I think a pastor should follow the example of Jesus in leading a flock. I think he or she should proclaim God's Word to all, and help equip the people of his/her flock for ministry.

Be a shining example of what being a Christian is all about. Sad to say many in this day are in it for the short work of it. Visit a few folks in the hospital and hurry up the pre-written sermon Saturday night. Peace out.......................

I dont think this can be answered, untill We, America take control of the problem of priests molesting children, i dont know how much you see it on the news but i see it quite frequently, we need to fix that problem before we ask what can they do
