After two weeks of green diarrhea, and a little bit of throwing up and fever...I took my 2 year old to the doctor last Friday. He said it was rotovirus and should be going away soon. He said no treatment other than keeping her hydrated. We haven't given her any milk, and have been giving her Gatorade like the doctor said. Now her bowel movements are light green/yellow and very very watery. When will this be over, what else can we do?

I hope that you just didn't hear the Dr tell you about the brat diet, because if he didn't tell you then find another Dr.

B.banana
R. Rice
A. applesauce
T.toast

give her some applesauce and mix some rice cereal into it, a slice of toast when she wants a snack, it will take a few days for her bowel movements to change but you will start seeing it get firmer.

You need to give your child something for the diarrhea. Call your doc and ask what he recommends for the diarrhea and do not use gatorade as it contains to much sugar and can make things worse. Use pedialyte or a vitamin/mineral enhanced water to keep the child hydrated.

As it is a virus, there is no "treatment" that will cure it; all you can do is treat her symptoms. Check w/ the Dr. to see what diarrhea meds he can recommend, and use Pedialyte or something like that instead of so much Gatorade.
Good luck!

My cousin's kid had rotovirus and she got very very sick. She was hospitalized overnight simply to get her rehydrated. I wish I could tell you how long it lasted, but I don't remember (this was about 3 years ago), but I do remember it took her a while to get completely over.

I sure hope she feels better soon, though. Poor darling.

its a virus and it causes alot of pretty much what ur baby seems to have, diahrrhea and vomitting and we worry about dehydration and electrolyte abnormalities. is ur baby dehydrated...weight loss, temple wasting, lethargic, no nrg, restless, crying. then he or she needs IV hydration, but if she or he is able to tolerate fluids and not vomitting then i say you are on the right track. also make sure you wash your hands and maintain proper hygeine cuz its contagious.
