There's probably a remote release lever inside the car. Probably beside the drivers seat or possibly a button on the dash. Hope this helps.

A car as small as a Nissan Micra will run at its best at low speeds, as otherwise the engine will have to work a lot harder to reach above 50mph. This will inevitably use a lot more fuel. Also make sure the car has been serviced recently and the tyres are at the correct pressure. Careful driving will also help. Use the correct gear for the speed you are going to get the best fuel economy.

If the release lever isn't working you will have to remove interior components until you have the back of the fuel neck exposed inside the car, then you should see the cable that you need to pull to release it.

Or if you aren't worried about the paint, then just pry it open from the outside with a large screwdriver.

K12 micra, fuel cap release is down by the right hand side of the dash near door opening(rhd) or K11 micra fuel cap release is down by the drivers seat next to door opening.
Hope this helps.
