Hello! For a month now I've had a UTI. After going to the doctors, he gave me a week of amoxicilin to take, I thought that it went away, but it is definitely back again. Im going to the doctors to get another urine test and I know that I will get more antibiotics. Im always on antibiotics....I'm getting nervous that my body is beginning to resist them and im only 22. Are there other ways to treat and cure a UTI w/o antibiotics and how can you tell if your body is becoming resistant? Also,I had a UTI a few years back, took med. and it went away....please help!

Your doctor needs to do more than just a urine test. He should do a culture and sensitivity to find out what bug is causing your UTI. Once they find out what is causing it then they can prescribe the right medicine. Also about 3 days after you finish the med the doc should RETEST your urine to be sure the medication took care of it. Be sure you are wiping front to back after using the toilet. If you are sexaully active be sure to urinate before sex and immediately after sex. Also drink lots of cranberry juice or take cranberry capsules daily to help prevent UTI's.

Hi! I'm a holistic doctor and treat this a lot without antibiotics.
1) Eliminate sugar, wheat and dairy from your diet.
2) Get the homeopathic remedy, CANTHARIS 30, and take 4 pellets under your tongue 3 times a day for 4-5 days. Stop taking the pills the moment the pain/symptoms start to subside.
3) Get acidophilus capsules from the healthfood store. This replenishes the good bacteria that has been killed off by the antibiotics. Take 3 capsules several times a day on an empty stomach. You MUST keep acidophilus in the fridge.
4) Ask yourself why you are 'pissed off?' There is usually an emotional trigger underlying this condition. If you heal the emotion, the physical symptoms subside.
Good luck!

It is't necessarily you that is immune to the antibiotics, there are many bacteria today that are becoming immune to antibiotics! You should inform your doctor of the antibiotics you were taking and ask if you can try something stronger, or different or if maybe a combination of two different antibiotics may work better. Also ask if the doctor does a 'culture' of your urine to see what was causing the infection as that can help you find out what triggered your UTI and fix it..
Feel better soon!

It does sound like you are becoming resistant. You may need a stronger course of antibiotics to kick this...talk to your doctor and insist that he prescribe stronger ones. If you don't you'll just end up suffering from and spreading this stronger form of infection. I also auggest drinking diluted cranberry juice (get the pure stuff, and do one part water, one part juice). Its tart, but it can help UTI's...plus the vitamin C in it should help bolster your immune system to help you fight off future infections.
Just as a side note, amoxicillin doesn't work for me anymore either...I have strep throat and an ear infection, and I just went back yesterday to get septra, a different kind of antibiotic, because the amoxill didn't work for me.

It isn't your body that becomes resistant, it is the organism causing the UTI. You will probably be given a more powerful antibiotic that will cure it

I used to suffer from the same thing. Here are some helpful ways to avoid it:
*No caffeine!!!!!! Only caffiene-free drinks.
*Drink lots of water!!!!! When you are easy to get them then you need to drink lots of water.
*Go to Walmart and get a bottle of cranberry pills and take 2 every morning or drink lots of cranberry juice.
Also, you might need to change soaps or body washes that you use during your shower or bath. It can get in you urethra and can travel and cause a UTI. Hope I could help. If you need more information email me.

Sometimes if you have too much sex it can make them worse or more frequent. Make sure you always go pee after sex. As far as getting rid of it then your doctor can probably change the antiboitic he is giving you. Your body will only become tollerant to the anitboiotic if you take it too long.

Go to your local health food store and get some colloidal silver. It is a natural antibiotic and should help.

Cranberry juice always helps. Also, try not to be sexually active for a week.
