Its my brother's wedding next month. He's paying for the entire wedding and I know its costing him about $110 per person. My husband is in the bridal party so has already put out money for the tux. I've already put out money for his fiance's shower gift. When I got married (at a justice of the peace) he gave me NOTHING and part of me still is upset at that. His, and the rest of my family's, reasoning is I didn't have the big wedding so I shouldn't have expected money from anyone. I could have used the money just as much as the next newlywed. Knowing this how much should my husband and I put in his envelope? Also was my family wrong in not giving me anything?

You should be mad! Just because you don't have a big wedding does not mean you should not have gotten a gift! (They have a lot of nerve to say that) But.... You should take the high road! Be the better person. I'm not saying give a lot, but give around $200. Just to cover your plate. Why should they make money off of you? Plus you did get a shower gift.

When you said you didn't have a big wedding, did you at least have a wedding. Big or small if you had a wedding, they should have done something. If you just went to the justice of the peace and didn't have any sorta celebration, then you really shouldn't expect anything. I would give him what you could afford.

You should give no more than your budget allows. People expect, expect, expect. A gift is a gift, and the amount should be at the discretion of the giver! With that said, I usually spend between $100 and $150 on family members. More if it's one of our kids getting married. Follow your heart...

Ouch! That's a tough one. Normally you give around the amount that your plate costs. But in your case, I don't know. This sounds like a messed up situation. You should have gotten gifts too
