A good start;
Proverbs 1
2To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; 3To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity; 4To give subtlety to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. 5A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: 6To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.
7The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. 8My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: 9For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.

Some receive not a love of the truth:

2nd Ths 2v10And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not a love of the truth.

Here is an excerpt from one of my favorite books, "How to protect yourself from Dummies for Dummies."

1. Tinfoil Hats keep Aliens from reading your mind.
2. Always carry around garlic and a wooden stake in case you have a chance encounter with Al Gore
3. AT ALL COSTS AVOID YAHOO ANSWERS!!! Yahoo Answers is were Dummies hang out to post stupid answers to semi-serious questions
4. Curl up in a ball in the corner hugging yourself tightly while singing, "Mary had a little Potato, its Shiggity poo opooppoopoooppoopo" Over and over and over and over again.
5. Avoid angry, advocating, worshipping, conformist music like Brittany Spears and Weird Al.
6. Do not read advice that says its "For Dummies." Instead, read advice "for college educated proffessionals."

don't watch TV

PS I never read long meaningless tracts of scripture, and I doubt I'm the only one. Methinks when Christians do that, you are just preaching to the converted.
