I Live with my boyfriend, and have my kids the majority of the time, except for every other weekend, when their father has them. I have a 8 yr old girl, and a 2 year old boy.
what are some fun cheap things to do with them. Our daily routine has simply become "come home, make dinner, help with homework, bathe kids, put them to sleep, work out at the Y, take shower, go to sleep, and repeat this everyday........ weekends have become a little blander than I'd like them to be.
We take them to the park occasionaly, but it's been kinda cold.....what are some good activities to keep everyone stimulated? Thanks!

buy some cool board games that you can play with the 8 year old. for the 2 year old get stuff like bubbles and finger paint, even the 8 year old can play with that.

Go sledding at the park. If you don't have sleds, they should be on sale now - right next to the swimsuits, probably.
Make something out of paper mache. A little flour and water, some newspaper cut up into strips, and go to town. Maybe have them cover a couple of balloons, then let everything dry and pop the balloons with a needle. Kids always like that. It's a little messy, but doesn't have to be too bad.
See if the local library has a story time. A friend takes her toddler to this once a week. Someone reads a kid's book or 3 to the kids for awhile. The kids get out, they get a little fun with other kids, and the parents get a break. You might meet someone with another 2 year old, and you can set up a play date for the kids, too.

You could take the 8 yr old to the mall for some window shopping, or go and rent movies, pop popcorn, and get into comfy pajamas then have a girls day (or night) and watch movies-her choice of course. With the 2 yr old you may want to check out the public library and see if they have a story day- a day where kids hear stories and then usually get to do a craft. This should be free of charge. Some libraries may not do this, I know the place I live now doesn't but the place where I used to live does. I would take my three children (7,6,and 4) to the library every Tuesday and we would stay for about two hours. They loved it. You could also take them to the zoo when it gets warmer. My kids love making hot chocolate and helping decorate sugar cookies. We don't do this often, but it creates special time with your children while they are young. Be creative. You don't have to be rich to find great fun things to do with your children. A lot of stuff can be done at home-and can be fun while doing it!

Go to your local library, they often have free story times and crafts. They also might have puzzles, computer games, or "fun boxes" you can check out and take home for a week with a certain learning theme.
You could make an obstacle course in the house (pillows, etc.), indoor campouts/picnics, backwards days on a weekend where you eat dinner for breakfast, breakfast for dinner, pajama days, a color theme day where all you wear/eat etc. is one color...
Also, check online for local community attractions like tour an ice cream or chocolate factory, an indoor kids museum, or aquarium. Some of these are very inexpensive.
You could also make a large box into a spaceship/car/puppet theatre/grocery store and both kids would enjoy that.
Learning and imagination games are best, and usually don't cost much more than your time and a little forethought!
Enjoy these years, they are gone all too fast!

If it is cold outside you can have a picnic inside on the floor. Maybe pitch a tent in the dinning room? We make 'forts' with blankets and the couch cushions. You daughter would love to play fashion and make up, let her do your hair and make up. Maybe you could make up a play and let her wear clothes from your closet.
Easy bake ovens are pretty inexpensive, or you could all just bake some cookies. Maybe even some clay ornaments or something.
Look for a pen pal. You could write to them as a family. Then you could study and learn about where the pen pal lives. Right now soldiers are looking for letters from home.

Try making cookies with the kids. My 7 year old son loves to measure the ingredients and reading the recipe is good practice for him.
Also create a scavenger hunt. Leave clues around the house that lead to other clues. When they get to the end they get a small treat.

Oh you have to buy Cranium Cadoo for kids and play it with them. (I whisper the questions to my younger one so that he can play along). It will stimulate them and make you laugh until you cry, it's so fun.
I also like making cookie dough and letting them use it like playdough. Then I bake all the little sculptures for them to eat.
