My son is also the same age, He also reads the Junie B Jones series, Along with that he also likes to read the Magic Tree house series and any beginner chapter books like scooby doo( and I'm sure they have girl chapter books as well), and Babysitter's club(little sister), and Polk Street books. My children also got into reading Robert Munch books, Mercer Mayer books, Eric Carle books. A few of my children's favorites is Little Quack series by Lauren Thompson especially the Little Quacks bedtime, The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn(this book my kids loves and now everynight before bedtime they want a kissing hand before bed) and Is Your Mama a Llama by Deborah Guarino. Hope these helps and enjoy!

Magic tree house was a big hit in our house. We also had a series of early chapter books called the Unicorn's Secret by Kathleen Duey. There are 8 books & they cover the story of a little girl who has no family, but finds a horse who is actually a unicorn with her horn sawed off. The unicorn has a foal who must then be hidden from the evil lord & his minions, so the girl hides out with a troop of gypsies. These were a great set for my daughter, big on fantasy, adventure, a strong girl etc and really got her into reading.

We are huge fans of The Magic Tree House Series, Magic School Bus books, and of course, Junie B. Jones. For additional ideas, talk to your local or school librarian - they often screen new books, and have access to "recommended reading" lists.

Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen have a couple book series. I read a mystery one with my 8 yr old neice - she's below her grade level for reading and she did well with it, enjoyed the story.
I think the kids tend to like books that are connected with the shows they watch, like Lizzie McGuire.

My daughter likes the Cam Jansen and Encyclopedia Brown books. She also likes the Magic Tree House books, but I'm far less impressed with them.

have u tried beverly cleary's ramona series. i used to LOVE reading those books. and maybe ann m. martin's babysitter club, if u think that is a little too advance, get the little sister's series. i cant remember what the series is called, i just remember something about the kitty kat klub or something like that. but they were my favorites to read when i was littler.
