Hello everyone , I have to ask a question, somone I know that is very close to me, got in trouble last year 2006 I mean BIG Trouble she got her charges from theft dropped from a felony to a Misdeameanor, now she has finished her CNA courses, and she has earned her liscense, for CNA, and she plans to move up to an RN in the future, Can she still get a job in the medical field, and have a criminal record, for one thing, and also, how long does it take for her record to clear from a charge? If you can find out the best way for me I thank you.

your friend can get a job in health care as long as she has no felony's and has never abused anyone in any way that includes Domestic Violence. I have a family full of Health care workers and trust me some of them are not the best people in life but have changed so much. You might say they grew up.

Mostly the only thing that will prevent employment is a felony as that is all you have to declare when applying. It will show up in a background check in most cases though.

Now if she gets a job and does well after a long time she can just disclose it up front as it can be chalked up as youth. Unfortunatly she may always get held back a bit or wonder if she should try for some better opportunity.

She should keep at it and sometimes a misdeamenor won't show up on the background check as RNs are in great demand everywhere. As far as it going away it never will. You can get things "expunged" but it is still there in some form. But with hard work and determination she can realize her goals. She will just have to try harder than most. She may be the one they look at if ANYTHING goes wrong for years........ so she needs to be squeeky clean. Not even a DWI or speeding ticket.

Yes, it is still possible to get a job, but the charges will definitely not help.

The problem with theft is it makes it hard for employers to trust your friend. They may ask themselves "If this person is left alone with a patient, will she steal their wallet?"

So, if it is a choice between your friend and another with similar qualifications, your friend will lose out.

My advice to her is to find an employer that is so busy and overwhelmed, that they just need someone, and don't have the time to quibble over past mistakes.

If the charge was reduced to a misdemeanor, she can get a job in health care. Her criminal record will never go away, it will follow her the rest of her life.

The employer may be very concerned about a theft record, considering she'll have access to meds.
