I support the troops (several of whom I know personally) by standing behind them and supporting what they are trying to achieve.
You cannot support the troops if you oppose what they are trying to do. (Kind of like going to a game and rooting for one team while you say you 'support ' the other.)
And if you want to fix the issues at Walter Reed - tell your Congressmen to cancel those partisan 'hearings' and allocate some money to fix the problems.
And it sounds like some people need to learn to tell the difference between 'suppot the troops and 'support your political opinions.'

Supporting the troops to most is a bumper sticker and a flag. If what you are asking is how can we really support our troops, then the answer is a bit more complex.
Supporting our troops, does not mean you wear or decorate your car or house with anything. It means that you have an attitude about what these guys are doing for our country. This means that you vote for the representatives that are supportive of the troops and their conditions, not necessarily the war. It means that you will get off your couch and be seen in public, welcoming a unit returning from the combat zone. It means that you will march in a parade that shows the solidarity behind those that are sacrificing so much for the masses. It means going on line and supporting a deployed unit with mail and family support.
Ignore the news broadcasts. They do not represent the people of this country. They are written and narrated by people who have never had to sacrifice like a soldier, airman, or sailor.

M1AMike, what the hell are you talking about with those goofy *** analogies. No one is going to the game and rooting for the other team, people are just stating what appears to be the obvious.
This isn't some damn football game man...men are dieing and being maimed out there. The troops are run by the tax payers, this isn't Rome or Nazi Germany or the Japanese imperial army. We , the tax payers pay for the troops...we decide when the troops mission is complete or when they need to keep fighting our wars or come home, that's supposed to be our job not the damn generals. I support the troops but if the citizens of this country say, it's time to come home then that should be the end of it. Don't get so caught up in the bullsh!t that you forget who calls the shots. That goes for you and the troops.

I think the Post reporters are supporting our troops by revealing to the general public how bad military health care is. The righteously outraged public is going to demand more transparency and higher standards as a result. I think this is a good thing.
I personally support the troops by sending those who are deployed letters, food, books, games... I know that by and large, they really appreciate it, even if it comes from someone who disagrees with the war.

Supporting the troops means ACTION, not words. You send care packages, letters. You tell them THANK YOU when you see a person in uniform. As a business, you offer discounts to military. You try to help the families who are home while their spouse/dad/mom is overseas.
My husband is about to deploy to Iraq for the second time, his 4th deployment since 02. I send weekly care packages to my husband, with extra mission munchies and homemade stuff to share. I try to send battle buddy or roommate a package a month. I am ALWAYS available to wives here to talk, help watch kids, help run errands.
So you support and care about the troops by doing, not saying.

First you have to be able to seperate Supporting our troops from supporting Bush and his corporate warfare. The DAV yes VFW NO, they arre nothing but a front for Bush nazis.
I contribute at the base nearby, as a retiree it's easy for me to help out. Walter Reed has been run down for years but don't confuse Military with VA. The VA has been pretty good if you can get past the recorded message and get a real person.

Yes I do care, but the truth is: Thats is the price to serve our country...Myself I already told my son about how this works and that if one da he wants to be in the service, 1rst finish the University then you can go and be in the service doing what he already went to school for...So he can't be expose to close battle I think this war wasn't done rigth but Who? I am to judge the Gov...For their mistakes I don't have a bumper sticker I won't never put such thing in my car etc...And never spend a penny to help...1rst because don't know were to go and help...I just find out how and I will do help someone... That I even want to take some classes to try to help even if the pay is not that good I will do it because I want to people=soldiers feel better...How can we help our soldiers? Honestly just pray for them to get back home safe...BY THE WAY I DIDN'T KNOW HOW BAD THAT IS...AND TRUST ME I BEEN LIVING IN A WORLD WERE I WASN'T AWARE OF ALL THIS SITUATION SO...Now that I meet some military people I learn and is very sad because when they come back from the war they are not in a good shape even if they are not wounded...Sad is all I say...

OK, as far as this person's response... the price of serving our country is that you don't get the support of the people? Is that what you're saying? Because that is ludicrous. And if you want your son to go to school before joining the military, that is fine, but I don't know where you came up with your theories. The chances of him doing "what he went to school for" in the military are pretty slim... and he he will still be exposed to close battle... officers are the ones leading us in... especially young junior officers!
You want to support us? Stop bashing the war and saying how we shouldn't be there. None of us want to be here... we all want to go home to our families. But all this protesting isn't doing any good for us.
I get letters and cards all the time from strangers who have "adopted" me... do a search for adopt or support a soldier (or aiman, marine, or seaman) and you will find hundreds of sites dedicated to just that. It means a lot to know that someone cares, even if you don't know them personally. Now I know several of these kind people and I appreciate everything they've done for me.

The best thing you can do for us soldiers is to go to a VFW and ask them how you can help. They always have ways for you to help truely support your troops. Or if you want join the military. Its not as bad as people think. i have had a very unstable life with a lot of deployments and being seperated from my spouse but to be honest i actually do LOVE the army.

I contribute to the DAV - Disabled American Veterans. I would encourage every American to support the DAV. Our veterans need our help. The Veterans Administration has suffered so many funding cuts since Reagan that it is a wonder the organization is still viable.
