Sure you can but you will still have to pay the debt but they can't force you to have the credit card.

You can cancel your account but you would still owe whatever it is you owe on it. Sometimes, if they institute an interest increase or add a fee, you have the option to cancel and just keep paying under the old rules. You can cancel, your account will show up on credit reports that you voluntariily canceled it, but you will still get a bill every month, interest will still accrue, until you pay it off. Basically, you're not going to beat these people. What they say you owe is what you're going to have to pay, whether you believe it's right or not.

You can cancel the card, but you will still be responsible for the debt including any fees that were agreed to in the original contract. The only thing that will change is that you will no longer have use of the card.

Unfortunately, you are responsible for the fees on the card including the late fees.
Why not stop using the card, pay it off, and then cancel it?
I would simply stop using it. Then when you pay it off, cut up the card and notify the company that you will be cancelling immediately. Make sure there is no balance owed, however.

I you were to cancel you account, the finance charges and fees would still apply and accrue. Why do you want to cancel, just don't us the card! You are still going to be responsible for the current and future charges and fees.
My suggestion, pay the card off and if you don't like the company or how credit cards work, don't use them

:You are resoponsible for the fees, charges and balance that are on the card. Pay them all, then cancel the card. If you want to avoid paying more interest - borrow the money owing from friend or family - pay it off then pay back the money to your friend/family as fast as you can. Next time you get a credit card get them to put a limit on it so you can't overspend again.

If you read the contract that they send you with the card it will tell you everything. In the meantime, cut up your card and send it in with your next payment, including the letter of cancellation of your Account. You're still responsible for the outstanding balance however.
