Somebody got my debit card numbers & street address and I am trying to figure out how. They charged 5 small items and had them mailed to me. According to the companies they charged from, they didn't get my bank account number, phone number or email address. The debit card is frozen and I got the money back, and now I have an extended fraud alert with the credit reporting bureaus. I am trying to figure out how my debit card numbers could have gotten out, because I am reallly careful with the card. But I did read about a breach at TJ Maxx, and I shopped there a couple of months ago.

Did anyone else shop at TJ Maxx and then have their credit or debit card numbers stolen?

Funny, Meg!!

Jensen, that's exactly what they did. Cut up the old card and issued a new one, so I have to deal with real money for the next two weeks til it gets here. That's a real pain for me because I am running a business and I like to do my postage online with that card.

Sorry to hear about that. I received a notice from my credit union stating that TJMaxx companies had a breach (I shopped at AJWright) and they offered me the chance to cancel/change cards and account numbers if I felt vulnerable. I believe that your bank should have offered you the same options. I did not take advantage of the banks offer. Now is the time for you to cancel your cards and account numbers b/c most small purchases on a credit/debit card is just a way to see if you have money and is leading up to a larger and more frequent purchases.

I recall this incident. Those shoppers at risk the most were those that actaully made a return on a card last summer, I believe, in certain states because that one transaction contained both the account number AND the customer's name and address information.

I would just get a new debit card.

I heard about this, too... for TJMaxx and for their Home Goods stores. Many of my friends were contacted by their banks and were given new account numbers and/or credit card numbers... but none of them had their cards actually used anywhere!
