Be skeptical. First of all, the only thing that is fireproof is the bosses son. Fire retardants and flame retardants do just that. They slow down the ignition and/or burning rate of combustible materials.

There are several uses for these retardants. Retardant for institutional clothing and bedding is one. The need has lessened, with the reduction in smoking. some codes require flame retardants for curtains, drapes and some furniture. Flame retardants are used on exposed wood members, often to mitigate other problems.

Some are coatings; others are impregnated into the wood. Of utmost importance for business success are recognition of the materials and application techniques by fire and building authorities, and the reputation of the company you may buy. I could just about guarantee that unless there is code-driven business, the company will not be profitable.
