Having had discussions with the yahoo answers user pangel, and seeing that she and I relate quite well on the subject of spirituality, while we may have some minor differences on wording of the subject, and might have diverse beliefs on these ideas, I still believe that her beliefs overlap with mine more than mine do with Atheism.

So from now on, I'm going to be known as a spiritualist on here and in real life.

Now she isn't the only spiritualist regular.

What say you?

The Mayor can do whatever he wants, it's ok with me.

P.S. I would like to see him get a new hat

Whatever floats your boat. What does it mean to be a "spiritualist?" If it means you believe in unobservable, unprovable forces, well good luck but I don't think it will work. But that doesn't mean you're not an atheist.
If you mean that you are interested in the essence of things you can still be an atheist and do that. Atheism has only one meaning - no belief in God - and says nothing about other beliefs someone may hold.

That's excellent. Pangel has also been key in opening my mind and saving me from fundamental Christianity. Not that I believe the same as her, but I'm at least coming to terms with the beliefs that I have chosen to hold on to, and have learned to reach out with my mind to try and learn the deeper truths. Thank you Pangel!

Most atheists I know are spiritualists... Not believing in gods doesn't mean you can't believe in spirituality itself, or in cosmic energies or any of that sort of thing.

I've done martial arts for so long and have experienced so many crazy things (and have learned to do some crazy things) that I simply cannot deny that there is a spiritual life energy that can be harnessed and used - and I'm a full-fledged atheist.

I have an awareness of and belief in many spiritualist views but I deliberately put them to the back of my mind so that I can explore other beliefs and philosophies objectively. Why apply labels to yourself and be constrained to following one single system of belief?

It is very refreshing that you have made a decision that will not only enrich your own life but also the lives of those you come into contact with in a way you find much more rewarding than when you were pursuing your own interests

Then again it may be the first public conversion on Y A! which would be pretty weird for the mayor!

There is joy, pain and some suffering in the journey but the truth will set you free! We are all searching for something. There are those that feel to big minded to admit it.

I say your blog said that you are still an atheist, even after having watched the Lost Tomb of Jesus.

Atheist just means you don't believe in a supreme deity. It doesn't mean you aren't spiritual. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Pangel does rule.
