Cats are very fastidious creatures all by themselves.
I have never bathed an indoor cat in my life. Nor will I unless they get into something gunky, which is highly unlikely.
Outdoor cats only get bathed if they have a stench that needs eradicating.
Cats are not terribly appreciative of an owner's misplaced affections in the bathing department. They really don't need a bath under normal conditions.
Save your money and save the cat from a stress attack. Well unless you like being ostricized for days by a cat.

There is no set rule that applies to all cats all the time.
Not all cats are the same, but as a rather reliable rule, cats DO NOT like water on them. They don't mind DRINKING it, but they do not like getting it ON them. ;)
Bathing cats is possible, but NOT necessary on a regular basis. Unless you've accustomed your cat to being bathed from kitten-hood, the process is likely to be alarming to the cat. You may wind up getting scratched or bitten, and the kitty may end up terrified!
I have it on good authority from vets that cats do not require regular (if any) bathing. Brushing a cat frequently can remove surface dirt, without water (plus, most cats like to be brushed.)
An exception to this "no bathing" rule would be if the cat has become especially dirty (due to a fight or being splashed by a mud puddle, etc.)
A suggestion for occasional spot removal would be a clean, warm cloth slowly wiped over the stained area of the coat. If you're training a new kitten, try stroking him gently with a damp cloth. From there, perhaps you can work up to a quick sponge bath; ONLY when necessary, taking care not to get water in the ears.
The good news is: most of the cats, most of the time bathe themselves, and we don't have to worry about it! That's one of their most famous attributes! :) ^..^

It depends on the cat. I had one that was just lazy and wouldnt clean himself. He was bathed 2 times a month.
From then on every cat we got was bathed at least biweekly as a kitten just to make sure they were used to it in case it was ever needed later in life. Cats dont mind it at all if youre gentle, keep the water warm, talk calmingly to the cat, and at the end dry it very well (mostly by blotting as this annoys the cat less), then pet it for awhile to let it know you appreciate how good it was for the bath.

My indoor cat is very clean although I help him out one or two times a year with a trip to the groomer for a haircut and bath.

we have had up to as many as 30 cats on a farm. some of them came inside the house from time to time. we never bathed any of them unless the got into oil or something really stinky. they are good about keeping themselves clean. i know some folks bathe a cat once a week though and it doesn't hurt them. just use a gentle or mild soap so the skin doesn't get dry and itchy.

Cats are usually good about keeping themselves clean. The only exceptions are when they get flea-infested, or they get in something smelly (usually by running into a skunk!) Other than that, don't worry about it.
Now, if a cat ISN'T keeping himself clean, there is a problem. But that's a whole another question.

I have mine bathed several times a year when they get their grooming visit. They get shaved down so I don't have a cat hair problem in the house. The vet does it. He also does their teeth cleaning at the same visit.

best to not bath cats unless they get into grease etc.
they have a natural bath system of their own
they also produce natural oils that are best for their skin which
help to prevent allergies and skin probs.
Brushing should be a daily thing btn the two of you and it helps
keep fur healthy.
