I was just wondering - so if you did something gross lol - would washing your hands more than once actually make them any cleaner? (this is assuming that you wash them well the first time?)
Just wondering. Any evidence either way?

so if you washed them, with soap, under warm running water, rubbing them together (inc. back, in between fingers and under nails, whatever) for 20 secs, would it be the same doing that once as doing it 5 times?

it would.. becuase mos tpeople don't wash their hadns for long enough.. You need to wash your hands for 20 seconds under hot hot water for it to make a difference nad th eaverage person washes their hands for 5 seconds... Assuming you washed them for 20 seconds the first time you should be okay. .however studies show people who wash their hands more are less likely to get sick

The short answer is yes.
You need to wash your hands after every potiential contamination.
If washing hands once a day were as effective as washing all the time, then doctors and nurses would not have to wash between patient contacts. This is not true, studies show that infection rates go down when nurses and physicians wash before and after every patient contact, even if they are wearing gloves.
Microbes are hardy little buggers, and some can live on surfaces for years (like mold spores). Washing also removes gross contaminants, like visible dirt, which can harbor microbes.
You need to wash with soap and water for as long as it takes you to sing one chorus of happy birthday. Sounds funny, but it works. And you always need to wash after going to the bathroom, changing diapers, prior to eating, handling raw meat, etc.

There would be a difference if the hands were washed with an antibacterial or anticeptic soap 2nd time round when only soap was used in the first wash.

Excellent answer from RN!

Use the Happy Birthday trick. It's easy and makes hand washing less boring.

I doubt it. I would be very concerned about someone who washed their hands five times (even if they had done something gross with them). Having a few million germs attack our immune system every day does us the world of good.

One time with an prolonged set scrub time is in simple terms as powerful in case you utilize a anti-bacterial cleansing soap. the attitude i replace into taught replace into to moist your palms, upload a sturdy quantity of cleansing soap, and scrub thoroughly collectively as you sing the whole version of Itsy Bitsy Spider, then rinse. be certain you get under your fingernails, between your palms, and up your wrists. it particularly is strictly hows medical doctors "scrub in" for surgical operation.

washing your hand once is quite effective and one should not wash hand too often as this causes several skin problems.
