You can pretty much catch mono in any way that you can catch a cold.

If someone has mono, and cough on their hands, and then shake yours, and you get some food and eat it without washing your hands, you can have mono.
If someone with mono is cooking and isn't clean about it, you can catch it.

To be honest, you can't really be sure that you caught it from your girlfriend. If both of you have it, how do you know that YOU didn't give it to HER?

Worst case, if you don't want to let your family know that you have a girlfriend, just tell them that you don't know how you got it - which would be the truth, and a doc doesn't have the ability to tell you how you caught it.

I just had mono and i didnt have a boyfriend for a girlfriend. My doctor suspected i shared a drink with someone and caught it. You may want to let them know that you do have a girlfriend though, at a later time.

I also got mono from making out with someone and am trying to keep it on the down low. I acknowlege that the person gave me mono, but just say that we shared a sundae.

you can go to the dr and they can do bloodwork to make sure you do or don't have mono. Mono is viral and you can get it from way more places than 'kissing'. it travels like a cold and if you get run down (over tired all the time, partying, etc) you can get it from it just being around. It has little to do with 'kissing', but you can get it that way, just like a cold.

I had "walking mono" in college some 30 years in the past. This replaced into seen a milder sort that made one basically think of that they had the flu. it rather is extremely communicable...could additionally be airborne...i do no longer undergo in thoughts the small print (30 years). besides, you do no longer could desire to get warm and heavy to get it...kissing will do it...(do no longer tell your mum and dad you do no longer kiss your g/f---ha!) yet i do no longer in all hazard be responsive to the place you have gotten have been given it if she does not have it. perhaps a guy or woman could properly be a provider yet no longer have the indicators. i could do some information superhighway analyze and spot no remember if it rather is airborne.

Mono can be gotten from sources other than kissing. That's just a common method of transmission. Until you are diagnosed, I wouldn't tell them it's mono anyway.

Unless you kissed someone with mono, you can't get it from kissing. It's just a very popular myth. Mono comes from exhaustion, poor eating habits, and general stress.

Just because it's referred to as "the kissing disease", doesn't mean you caught it that way. I think your bigger issue here is the fact that you are a college student and can't tell your parents that you have a girlfriend...If and when asked how you caught it, simply say you aren't sure. Lying is NEVER the answer! Good luck!

I had it a couple of years ago. People used to say you only got it from kissing. When I was at the doctor, he said I could have gotten it at a bar or restaurant if the glasses/utensils weren't washed properly or from a water fountain at the gym.
