I placed several .exe files into quarantine when I scanned them for viruses. When I restarted my computer, it eventually gets to windows, however all I can see is my background picture and an error message that says: msgsrv32 not responding. Then I have to X out. leaving my screen to show only the background picture and nothing else. When I press CTRL Alt DEL it is completely blank. Please help!!!

I would reinstall windows. It sounds like that file is corrupt or was one of the virus infected files. If there was a virus on your computer, those .exe files that you quarantined may be need for Windows or other programs to run. Reinstalling is the only good way to resolve your problem.

Msgsrv32 (not responding)

This program is one of Windows' components that runs invisibly in the background. It performs several necessary functions, including the following (this information is taken from Microsoft's knowledge base):

• Mediates Plug-and-Play messages among various parts of the operating system.

• Coordinates automatic responses to setup programs. This includes checking whether a setup program has improperly overwritten Windows files, and optionally restoring the Windows versions of those files-see "Your Sysbckup folder" later in this chapter.

• Displays the initial logon dialog box if multiple users are configured, or in some circumstances, if networking is enabled.

• Plays the system startup and shutdown sounds.

• Loads installable Windows drivers at startup and unloads them at shutdown.

• Runs the shell program (usually Explorer.exe) and reruns the shell if it closes or fails to respond.

Because of the varied nature of this program, almost anything can cause it to crash. If it does, you can end its task. If this happens more than once, it's best to restart Windows immediately.

I suggest getting a Mac if your finances allow it. When I had a Dell I would constantly have similar problems. Then I got an iBook (which are now called MacBooks) and I have yet to have any problems. I would NEVER go back now.

Im sorry to tell you this but you must reinstall your opertating system. I just did this a couple a weeks ago. But you will lose everything on your computer, so I hope you back your stuff up.
