A shamrock is a cool idea. Its something you won't regret since you are Irish. But I would get it to one side or the other not in the middle..... since it will be a small tattoo. Just type in pics of shamrocks or shamrock tattoos on yahoo. That should bring up some ideas. You could also go to some tattoo shops and look at some of the pics they have to offer. If you find one you like make a copy of it and take it home and think on it for a few weeks just to make sure its the one you really want and also to make sure you dont find one you like better. I have 6 tattoos and I've done that on everyone of them and am glad that I did. Good luck on the search!!

I have 3 tattoos.

I have a Grover tattoo (yes the furry blue monster from Sesame Street). I picked him because I've been collecting him since I was 5 years old.

I have Jake & Elwood (The Blues Brothers), because I'm a blues singer and growing up they inspired and are one of my favorite bands.

I have a leafy vine (that yes goes across my lower back) that my Mom doodles when she's talking on the phone.

The worst thing you can do is go to a tattoo parlor and pick a picture off the wall that means nothing to you.

Look at the things you love (no names please except for Mom or your kids) and go with something you wouldn't be ashamed to show when you're 75 years old.

If you are very proud of your irish heritage than by all means get a shamrock. If not, find something else.

Best Wishes on your first tattoo,

--Lee Ann

Get a shamrock. That's what I got my first tattoo of. If you get a tattoo of like a band or an animal that you like, you might stop liking it and have to look at the tattoo of it for the rest of your life, but it's not like you're going to wake up one day and not be Irish anymore. That was my thought process when I got mine, anyway.

If you are planning on getting one the only thing I can say is go to someone (tattoo parlor) that you have heard does a good job. Look at their flash work on the wall and see who can do what. Just make sure that you pick something that you will want to live with forever and don't get it somewhere where you will regret later. I have 4 of them and i love them all they all have meanings. Just make sure you don't get something that you will either have removed later in life or having it covered up.

since tattoos are a permanent thing.. you dont need people to give you ideas because its going to be on your skin. You should think about it, it has to mean alot to you so when you do see you would say ahhh yes, i dont regret getting this at all.
