Why are parents so quick to blame things like MTV, video games, and TV in general for their children's lack of discipline? Yes, it is true that what is acceptable on TV now would never be allowed on "back in the day" but is that any excuse? I've run busineses for five years and I have witnessed thousands of parents let thousands of kids run wild. When I was a child, when I made a mess at a restaurant, we would not leave until I cleaned it up. When I was a child, I was not allowed to put my greasy hands all over glass, to play around with things that didn't belong to me, etc. These may seem like minor things, but why don't you parents realize that this is what molds your children for the future! Anyway, my question wasn't rhetorical. Really, parents of "bad children" why can't you blame yourself?

because those parents were raised by parents who didn;t believe in taking responsibility for their actions, the effects trickle down.
Have you seen Idiocracy, its a sad statement of what this world is becoming...to the extreme.

Our society has been brainwashing us for awhile now that we are the center of the universe and we can do no wrong. They called it helping our self-esteem, but it created a generation of monsters.
The parents don't want to limit their kid's "freedom" so they've allowed them to do whatever they want. They blame shift onto MTV because they too have been brainwashed, so it can't be their fault now can it?
Parents need a serious wake up call. Take steps from the beginning to establish your authority and teach your children to respect that. They haven't been taught to respect anything or anyone so they are becoming a major menace to society. Will our society survive this? What will our culture look like in 30 years when these kids are running the country?? I'm scared to see what will happen.

In today's society, a lot of parents are really not involved when it comes to their children. Its just easier to blame other things rather than take responsiblity for why young people are the way they are today.
After the borth of my scond son two years ago, I quit my job to stay home with him because I want to be 100% involved and responsible for the upbringing of my children. When my first son was born (who is now almost 11) weren't financially in a place where we could afford for me to not work full-time. But now, thank goodness we are so now I am home for both of my children and if they turn out rotten, I can't blame it on MTV or Playstation. It will be MY fault. But Ill raise these kids up right, even if it kills me. I owe ot to them both...

I agree with you. Some parents do not make their children mind or accountable for their own actions. This is why a few restraints have made the news by parents that dont make their children mind, Throwing a fit, when they ask the parents to control the children or leave.
I see that mine behave and "Dont touch" and appreciate when other parents do as well.

The reason is simple: Parent's don't want to take responsibility for their children. Instead of disciplining them on their own and taking care of problems, they want someone else to blame. Society as a whole has this problem. No one wants to take responsibility for their actions from age 3 til 99. Isn't it great?

30 years ago, some parents would blame the Beatles for popularizing drug usage.
30 years from now, they'll be blaming the internet and some other scapegoat that hasn't become popular yet.

im not a parent, but i think they just dont want to believe that its their fault and that they dont want to take the blame, so they blame things that "influence" their children to do those same things

MTV is half to blame. But it's mostly the parents.
