Hepatitis A and E are transmitted through the oro-fecal route. They are both self- limited and do not cause chronic infection. There is a very small chance of acute liver failure with hepatitis A, about 0.1%. Vomiting usually lasts only for a few days. After that, the patient can eat everything. Jaundice increases in the first week or two. Later, it starts decreasing rapidly. The illness lasts only for a few weeks, about 2 to 4.

Both Hepatitis A and E are not life threatening in usual setup BUT the mortality in case of females who are pregnant is quite high; otherwise normally you don't have to worry much but leave it to your doctor for giving anti-emetics and histamines (for vomiting and heart burns acidity) and diet restriction for certain foods. Both these are actually water-borne diseases and after they run there course leave no specific side effects.

I'm sure she will be fine in about 6 weeks. Is she hospitalized or at home? The biggest problem is dehydration at this point. She will be on antibiotics for a while. Wash your hands people, when you use a public rest room!!!!! Hepatitis is spreading, in all forms.
