Your mindset is why pollution is the way it is now. Just continue to throw your beer bottles out the car window.

That's true but we have to have a place to put all of this excess waste if we chose not to recycle it. Where will it go? There are so many people on this earth that waste and don't recycle that our landfills will end up overtaking this planet. So why not recycle them? A long time ago people said that coal was never going to run out either, or even oil...well, sadly it is disappearing like crazy as will sand some day.

Glass does not break down back into sand quickly...it takes centuries. In the meantime, it would take up space in our landfills, which are quickly filling up.
Secondly, turning sand into glass requires massive amounts of energy...factories that do this use a lot of power and often also produce some air pollution. Recycling glass cuts down on this a good deal.

Less than 50 years ago people were saying the same thing about petroleum -- it was plentiful, and as far as they were concerned we were in no danger of depleting it. All of our national resources are in finite supply, so we should do the best we can to reuse anything we can.

actually in some aspects of recycling it can be worse than just throwing it away, untill recycling can be made cost effective that's just the way it is. if recycling makes you fill good about yourself than do it. i do on from time to time. i think figuring out to problems of recycling is a important part of the future.
