Can anyone tell me the cost differences as well as pro and cons of getting Implants versus Maryland Bridges to permanently replace four teeth. I have two on top and two on bottom, all in front. Im on the verge of going through with a 16, 000 dollar procedure with the four implants but I know nothing about Maryland Bridges.

I truly appreciate everyones help. This is so scary and such a huge decision. Luckily i think I may have found a perfect surgeon if I decide to go with the implants. I just wish this wasn't considered cosmetic surgery for those of us who are born without them and four is soooo many. But no insurance companies will take on a pre-existing condition...I guess i have to choose the lesser of two evils. Thanks again for all your help!!!

I have had a front tooth implant for 26 years. It's healthier than all my natural teeth.

If you can afford the implants, I'm with everyone else. Not so much for the aesthetics, but for the general health of your gums and the bone beneath them. When you lose a tooth, you lose the entire structure that is within the bone - with an implant, you have a replacement structure. The bone will grow around the implant providing as close to a natural feel as you'll ever have again.

There is another option - implant supported bridge. :)

Implants are brilliant.

Maryland Bridges

A bridge can be uncomfortable. My father had eight different bridges made and still was not comfortable. I had three implants and have had no trouble.

I know it is expensive but I had a bridge that was very uncomfortable and the implants were worth it.

I am sorry, I know nothing about Maryland Bridges, I am just talking about my person experience with bridges in general.

Hi, Im a Registered Dental Assistant, and have been in the field for 18 years. If it were me, i would choose the implants. They are very expensive but will last a very long time and look very natural. You pretty much can not tell that they are not. It is quite process they have to place the screw under your gums and wait 6 months before you get the implant (tooth) . It is alot healthier then a bridge. My advice is to definitly go with the implants. Make sure you have a good dentist that places the implants. Good luck!!

I've had a Maryland bridge for 5 years or so (singe tooth upper incisor) and in that time I've had to have my bridge re-cemented a dozen times or so. It gets very frustrating! Whenever I go the dentists always tell me that they don't recommend Maryland bridges to anyone, just because they are always coming loose. The good thing about a Maryland bridge is that it is cheap and requires very little alteration to the neighboring teeth.

I'm in the process of investigating implants to replace this annoying bridge. If you've got the money, get the implants!

I think I would go with the implants. I think they would hold better than having a bridge.

I have 3 dental implants. One on the bottom and two in my upper front. I have never had a bridge before but if you can handle the cost and the recovery time then i would suggest the implants. I am extrememly happy with mine. I can eat what ever i want and they look perfect.

bridges are a little less comfortable, less convenient and they look at lot less attractive and natural. THey are significantly cheaper however, especially with insurance. If you trulycare about the cost - the bridge is not a bad option. It will work and serve out its purpose just FINE, so dont let anyone convince you that you must get implants and nothing else

Quite simply..implants are dearer But look better and work better.

Dentures and bridges dont look as natural, can be loose, etc.

If u can afford implants do, you'll be haappier. That said they are expensive.
