I'm looking for a FAST car. I would like to tune up one of these cars with aftermarket parts. I need a fuel efficient car. Also a reliable car that I can count on for years to come.

Why get a new car? All you are going to do is void the warranty. Plus your mods will do absolutely nothing to the resale value.

If it must be a new one, do the Mazdaspeed3. I think the dealer will sell you a chip that will get you more power and still let you keep the warranty. While the idea of putting more stress on the engine does not bode well for long term reliability, Mazda's do hold up better. The Mazda will also be in more limited numbers, and should hold its value better.

If you are willing to consider a used car, a Subaru WRX should fit the bill. I also have always liked the mid 90's 300ZX's as well.

The Mitsi has had a poor record of bad valve seals in the past and, they have know this for quite some time and, have not improved their vehicles performance so, if you want to do some engine work at a relatively young age to your car try the Mitsi. The annual Consumer Reports guide book is an excellent source for consumer purchase info.

once you start doing the engine adds, you are potentially sacrificing the engine's life.. just food for thought. find an 06 saleen focus (s-181, i think they were called) with the N2O package. came from the factory nitrous-ready. hell of a performer as well, not to mention limited production and collectible.
oh, and another thing... if you make it faster, get bigger brakes and do something about the handling as well. another plus for the saleen, it's already done. a new one would have set you back about 26-30K, but thru a used dealer or an auction, probably significantly less.
