BINGO.
Great question, which brings a great point with it.
"stand for something or fall for anything"
it doesn't mean you have to believe in cult nonsense. that is the failing logic of brainwashed cult silliness.
and "because the bible says so" is the lamest, weakest fall-back comment anyone can make.

We live in a time when answers about everything seem no further than a key stroke away ....This generation is used to having everything instantly . It's a time where technology is growing and being implemented by the masses as quickly as it's bing put out there. And it's not easy to have to wait.
faith is being replaced by a need a proof. But faoth is th peronal side of it all....it's what you hold.
I can;t answer if demanding for proof is evil . I can say demanding anything from God is something I have never personally done. I personally hold that God will reveal for me the path I should take , and should I falter he will allow me to make the mistake I needed to make to find the right one . In short , I'm less concerned with him proving himself to me , and more concerned with me proving myself to him ... but again , that's PERSONAL.
Faith is blind , it's an abstract. Some people find religious icons on a grilled cheese sandwich , other just at their lunch . Neither is more right than the other .
Good luck on whichever path you take ,

Generations of the past was when knowledge and education was reserved exclusively for the Priestly Classes or the Elite and Rich Bourgeoise. In Ancient China, it goes one more step, its was considered unthinkable for a woman to receive education if one was a commoner to a daughter of a wealthy merchant. Only the daughters of Ministers and Generals were allowed to learn reading and writing.
Now that education is a must for all, obviously accepting whatever is heard without question does not become an option any more... coz the intellect is being utilised.
Therefore if search for truth, Knowledge and the Use of God Given Intellect is EVIL, then I guess yes I am Evil...

A wicked generation seeks not after truth, but after signs. Signs are not proof that God exists. Besides this, if they get the sign that they so desire, it would be their destruction. It is like Jesus said, He is to "that kind of generation" as Jonah was to Nineveh, you know, because their wickedness has gone up continually before the Lord.
Proof of God exists all around us, and the fact is, if one refuses to see it, then just what kind of sign will they accept? And if one accepts merely because of a sign, what kind of faith is that? Not only that, but aren't they leaving themselves open to being deceived? Can't just anyone come along and put up a false sign?
God does not ask us to accept Him based upon blind belief without any evidence, on the contrary, He asks us to believe on faith. Faith does not come out of no where, it is based upon trust, trust that was earned, trust in the evidence that is there (such as the love a parent might have for their child), or upon the hope of things to come because of the promises that are made.
It is exactly like someone coming up to you, dating you for a while, and eventually asking you to marry them. Where is the proof that they love you? You just have to have faith based upon what you know and have learned about them.

What sign would you like? Jesus provided a sign in His time and it was rejected.... look carefully at what happened after the resurrection. The Pharisees knew exactly what happened - and they covered it up - they couldn't handle the truth.
So what would you accept as the truth - a true sign from God? He's already proven over and over again who He is and mankind still rejects the evidence.
I'm a Christian because of the evidence -non-biblical evidence I might add.

Because the sign is already before their faces and they refuse to accept God for who God Is and what God created.
God gives signs all the time and many times right in front of someone who asks for a sign. That is an evil generation who is blinded from seeing Gods Truth.
I see signs all the time. But of course, I am a born of God, spirit filled Christian.

If God worked that way, if he proved his own existence, we'd have so much less choice in the matter. We'd be COMPELLED to follow him. By making it a matter of faith he's protecting our free will.
But let me tell you, he's not so hidden. You just need to look for evidences, not facts. When you give something a chance, when you place faith in it, see what happens! Go to church. Pray. Read the scriptures. Try it more than once. Exercise your FAITH and then pay attention to how you feel. If you do it in faith and have a desire to know, you will feel the Holy Ghost witness to you that it is good. And that evidence, while it won't give you a perfect knowledge, will cause your faith in it will increase.

Our salvation has been designed so that the humblest find it first. Jesus said this, and so did St Paul in 1Corinthians. Its open to all, but is something we mostly have to make efforts to find.
We as a society are rich, comfortable, pleased with ourselves, proud: "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."
But the early church did have miracles and supernatural signs to confirm their message's validity. This is because many religious systems are very plausible, have enjoyable rituals and so on. Missionaries in Mohammedan countries start winning many people for Christ when they do the signs and wonders and show God's compassion for the sick, as well as preach the salvation message.

With all due respect, the lead question is a distortion of the actual text from the Bible.
Jesus' actual words (according to the Bible) are:
"This wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; but there shall be no sign given it, except the sign of Jonah..."
It does not say they were wicked (evil) BECAUSE they sought a sign. They were wicked because they where practicing wickedness...simple; and the only way they would even consider giving up their wicked ways for what Jesus was telling them was if he could give them a "sign"...hence, his answer.

Because judeo-christian religions don't want you to learn about the world, think for yourself, investigate history, and so on... Free thinking is a heresy because it tends to deny faith.
So obviously those who look into the truth are demonized and deemed "evil" by the blind adherents. But it's gotten better in the last 150 years. It used to be that free-thinkers were actively hunted, tortured and killed. That's what catapulted us into the dark ages and why we were so primitive (more primitive than the romans/greeks/egyptians) until around 1850 when christianity finally relented.
