My father is turkish and I live in Germany. And I can say that Ankara is really better than Istanbul. There you can see more things of the modern turkish republic of Kemal Atatürk.

There is much more to see and do in Istanbul. I found Ankara to be a little too modern and boring. In Istanbul you have all the great museums, the old buildings mixed with the new, great food, wonderful places to just walk around or just sit and drink tea. I like Istanbul much better. It was great to see Ataturk's resting place in Ankara, but that was it.

you're right. Ankara is better. But people like mediterranean character of Istanbul. Ankara is neat and tidy and as that it's not really suitable for sweaty backpackers. Also places of interests for turists are more like: seaside, famous sites, museums, old town, old buildings, etc. Mind that foreigners don't care about modern Turkish republic, neither do I, but I like Anatolian spirit. Istanbul is also more like a melting pot, where you can see Turks, Kurds, Pakistanis, Persians, blacks, Russians, Gypsies, all kind of people, while Ankara doesn't have so many non-Turks. Also Istanbul has more prostitution, belly dance and night clubs, while Ankara has less. Istanbul is more lively and Ankara is less lively.

Yes, Ankara is more systematic than İstanbul.

But for the weekends???

Ankara doesnt have much more choices as İstanbul for the weekends. Here is all the Ankara:

Kızılay
Bahçeli 7.Ave.
Tunalı Hilmi Ave.
Arjantin Ave.
Ankara Castle
Anıtkabir
Atatürk Orman Çiftliği
Ankamall Shopping Centre
Armada Shopping Centre
Göksu Park

I think living in Ankara would be better when u spend the weekends in İstanbul.

Desirable by empires over the ages, straddling Europe and Asia, Istanbul is one of the world's great metropolises an you can begin to discover with Hotelbye . The town was technically called Istanbul after the founding of the Turkish Republic and is liberally dispersed with wonderful remnants of its extended and illustrious record, and the sightseeing here can impress also the most monument-weary visitor. The mosque Sultan Ahmet, also referred to as the Blue Mosque isone of the one thing should see in Istanbul. Blue Mosque was created between 1609 and 1616 and it caused a furore through the entire Muslim world when it was finished as it had six minarets. The mosque gets its handle from its inside design of countless amounts of İznik tiles. The whole spatial and color effectation of the interior make the mosque one of many finest achievements of Ottoman architecture and a spot worth visit.

i agree with you at this point. Ankara is a lot more systematic and equable place. There is no traffic like istanbul which makes people crazy sometimes. Maybe, istanbul is in front because of its history and the Bosphorus. However, Ankara is the city that Mustafa Kemal Ataturk left us as a inheritance. so, i accept Ankara as the best city in Turkiye...

for me as a comer from İzmir at the begining ıt was difficult not having to see the sea but now if you ask me to choose ı would choose Ankara. İstanbul ofcourse is very mistical but Ankara is more orginised and systematical type of a city. Not soo much crowded and not soo muched mixed.

but ofcourse every place has its ups and downs.

Best visit both :))

Ankara is better for sure. i dont agree HotTürk i can do what i want in Ankara just i cant see sea. its ok for me and some years later there ll be faster trains. we ll waste less time to going ankara from istanbul than a person who is trying to go home in istanbul

Hmm, that's true too but the main life is in Istanbul.

Once I went to Ankara for seeing Anıtkabir..There were just buildings, there is no anything special.

Istanbul is the living city (and u know it the capital of Europe of 2010) u can do everything u want. I love my Istanbul! :-)

Eh şimdi doğruya doğru büyükler sevmiyor İstanbul'u çok kalabalık diye ama ben çok eğlenceli buluyorum ;-)
