Recent scientific studies have shown that drinking a great deal of milk into adulthood can be unhealthy and could possibly encourage cancerous cells or osteoporosis to develop. However, milk is vital for a newborn and growing baby's development and I think your doctor is right to suggest you drink enough to supply your baby with sufficient calcium to cause healthy bone growth. The problem comes when we (as so many of us do) keep drinking too much milk, as too much calcium can become unhealthy.

Ask your doctor if you're still unsure or check out some of the research yourself (perhaps try www.peta.org for some of the arguments against drinking an excessive amount of milk).

Well anything can be harmful if done to much. Hear about that lady that died because she drank to much water in a water drinking contest? Dairy is part of the four major food groups and I believe that you're supose to have atleast 3 servings a day. As far cancer I have never heard of that, but I supose almost anything can give you cancer these days. As far as the heart problem I supose too much calcium. You can get calcium deposits in your body, but I highly doubt that it can be caused by milk alone. If a doc says it's good then it's good and don't worry about side effects.

As you know, milk is a good source of carbohydrate (lactose), protein (especially and exclusively casein) and fat apart from vitamins and minerals. The minerals especially calcium and phosphorous are important for bone formation and will aid in the growth of the foetus in the womb. There is no conclusive evidence to prove that excess consumption of whole milk will lead to cancer. Old people, particularly those with high cholesterol level, will however have to exercise caution while dealing with fat rich dairy products but consumption of whole milk alone at the recommended level will not increase the blood cholesterol level. As you have not mentioned your age and since you are pregnant, it is assumed that you are young and going by these facts, you need not worry about drinking a lot of milk but tread carefully when it comes to other fat rich products. Now I know this will sound very strange, but try nutrition from a Biblical perspective. There is divine wisdom with food in the Bible which transcendes what actually makes sense. Barbara a Prophetess in the Old Testament gave a man a drink of milk who asked her to hide him in her tent. He fell fast asleep and she covered him with a mantle and hammered a tent peg through his temple staking him to the ground and killing him. Why? What is a mantle, and why a tent peg? Also Barbara is a Bee.
No milk does not cause cancer, in your situation, and is the best thing for your maternal state. May God bless you unto his Glory!

I have never heard that milk will give you heart problems or cancer. It is good for your bones because of the calcium, and there are the added vitamins to it.

I suppose everything could be harmful in excess amounts but I think for the most part it is healthy to drink a couple glasses a day.
