DO NOT TELL ME TO GET WINDOWS XP! i have windows me on a 2nd hand computer, i don't have ANY disks for it. i accidently erased the system.ini file and now i cannot get to windows.
it tells me it can't find system.ini, boot with emergency boot disk and type SCANREG /RESTORE.
a friend lent me the disk, i put it in and then it says
starting windows me boot...
type the name of the command interpreter(e.g. C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND.COM)

i tried to type the scanreg thing and it says the same thing.
i need someone to talk me through it, keeping in mind i only have access to the internet through my in laws comp. and only have access to that like once a week. i just want the comp. to run, so i can access internet. if u can't help please don't answer, i can't afford to upgrade or buy anything so i need to fix this, thanks in advance.

okay if i could get to system restore that means i'd be able to boot into wondows, WHICH I CAN'T, AND THAT'S KINDA THE PROBLEM!!! PLEASE DON'T ANSWER IF U REALLY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!

I think you can re-install windows ME on your computer. It's upto you to format and install windows. Get a Windows ME CD. Boot from CD-ROM. And continue installing windows by online screen instructions.

Try going to the start menu and select help.From there go to system restore,And if you remember the date and time you messed up restore your system to a date before that. That should do it.
