is it normal if you get a Celtic knot to have to pay for each knot in the tattoo or just one flat price?

Most artists charge around $100/hour. There is almost always a shop minimum, gennerally around $50 or so. (even if your tat only takes 15 min, you pay the minimum price) Your best bet is to take the design to the artist you want and get a quote

Flat rate, it should be based on the time it takes to do the tat. Once the needle and ink are dirty, it doesn't really matter accept the time the artist spends on you. However, if you get it done in multiple sittings, than that should cost more because you are paying for needle and ink everytime you go and that usually has a base cost of around $35.

one flat price unless you go multiple times for each knot

It really depends on the place, I think. I don't think that you'll have to pay by the not, but just one price for the tattoo overall.

If you get it done in one sitting it's a flat price, but if you get it done in two or more sittings you'll have to pay each time you go in.

Depends on place and tattoist. Usually though you just pay one flat price for that tat.

You're kidding, right?
If the guy isn't giving you one price for the entire piece, take a walk.
