Do yourself a favor: Go to your nearest Ritz Camera or any camera store and invest a dollar or two in some lens paper. It's the only paper or cloth you can use that you can be 100% sure will NOT scratch the lens. Breathe on the lens to fog it and wipe it with the lens paper. Anything else and you risk scratching the lens, damaging the optics, or destroying the protective coatings on the lens.

Good advice from Sarge on this, your breath plus a microfiber cloth or lens tissue is the way to go.

Avoid bathroom tissue (most have moisturizers in them, great for your nose and tush NOT your camera lens). Stay away from paper towels as well since they are often rough.

If you're in a bind a good, well washed cotton/rayon t-shirt can get you fixed up. Cotton tends to be "linty" and can leave some remnants behind so you may need a little puff of air after the wipe.

If you've got really stubborn spots a trip to the camera store for a little cleaning fluid is worth it (basically de-ionized water), and if you're REALLY desperate (note the emphasis on REALLY) you can make a home brew of 1 part vodka to 20 parts water.

Yes vodka. The alcohol in vodka is the cleaning agent (obviously) and the alcohol will evaporate quickly and leave a minimal of residue.

Please note this needs to be plain old vodka, nothing flavored, nothing designer. It's clear, it's mostly alcohol and it can work in a wicked pinch but I don't recommend it as a regular course of cleaning.

Good luck!

Using microfiber lens cloths. I believe it's the same type of material used to wiping glasses. Just drip some clean water onto the cloth, and wipe it gently.

If you have glasses cloths, it will work. Sometimes tissue works too, but you need a soft clean brush (for painting, girl makeup brush) to pickup dirt stuck on the lens.

You've got a bunch of good ans. Whatever you use, don't use Windex as some people suggested some months ago.
